I'm waiting for the day when I'm on the course and I leave it in on an 8 footer and some schlemiel goes, "so I guess you want to decrease your odds of making a putt".

I had NO IDEA that the third word in the Yiddish triumvirate schlamiel, shlamazel, **** referred to male genitalia.

Much like I had no idea that the name of Stenson's Caddie was considered vulgar in other English speaking countries.

The new censored word list is doing wonders for my language skills.

When I was a kid, I thought biting down on the palm of your hand was just a "normal" reaction when a woman did something hot. Thanks, Lenny.

Sawgrass was great it was my third time playing it. Saw Kass Singh on the driving range and he was a cool guy. Nice swing. He was getting working with his swing coach. The winds were up because of the thunderstorms that are scheduled to arrive today. The crews were still taking down the structures on 17. Teed off on the back 9 this time as it gives the grounds crew time to work on the front 9. I found out that sawgrass does this once a week. Walking caddies is great as the other two players were in a golf cart and we had to wait for them on almost every shot. Parred 10 and was excited for a good round but soon the wheels fell off. Tripled 11 as I was in the pine straw on the right side of the fairway and since we don’t have pine straw in our courses back home, I didn’t know exactly how to hit the ball. Not too much drama until I got to 14. If folks recall this hole, it is the one that Tiger famously hit into the water but his playing partner said he had crossed. Hooked my ball into the same water on the left and took a drop over by the bunker and proceeded to triple that hole also. Doubled a few holes after that and then we get to 17. We decided to play from where the pros hit so it was playing 135. They had the pin at the Sunday location so that was exciting. I went first and took my 9 iron and landed it on the left side where Vegas made his long bomb. The other three people proceeded to dunk 2 balls each into the water. Made par on the hole. 18 has always been nemesis because I usually hit into the water with my cut. Luckily didn’t happen this time and made bogey. So front 9 which was the back 9 didn’t do so hot. But swing came around on the next 9 and came swinging it well. Rough was thick at 3 inches and I don’t know why caddies think that players can hack out of the rough like pros or made good amateurs. I never advanced the ball more than 100 yards when I was in the rough. I’m not sure I’d do a walking caddie again though. It was fun but I think some of these caddies think we play better than we do or strike the ball better than we do. All in all it was a fun time and my uncle liked me taking him out shot 94 but +6 on the second 9. I was happy with it but wished I played better.

It just seems/feels like that whatever effect the stick has on the ball going in the hole is so minimal that it's not going to affect any of our scores in the long run. I've seen so few putts deflect off the stick that would normally go in without it and I've seen plenty where the stick has stopped a fast paced putt. This is going off of about 5 months of leaving the flag in. In my opinion it's a personal, subjective preference on whether you want it in or not and we can each do all of the mental gymnastics to try and justify why we're "right" and find the studies that back up our opinions. The percentage of putts this actually affects just seems so miniscule. Especially in the long run. I mean, we all want to get that "edge" that gives us an advantage some how, but I'm pretty sure that leaving the flag in is *not* going to put our game over the top. Some people can't mentally get over the stick being in the hole, which just adds another variable into the equation.

I like keeping the flag stick in because it gives me something to aim at in the middle of the hole. My miss rate is probably exactly the same with it in as with it out. If we're playing together and you want the flag out - I don't care. Do your thing, homie.

I think Golf Magazine this month had a similar article and one of the graphics noted that another reason to never leave the pin in is because - I'm not kidding - removing the ball on a made putt with the pin in could cause damage to the cup for your playing partners.

It was right at that point when I decided to never read another study or article about this topic.

I saw that. It was like "if you're still not convinced, here's another factor".

It's so dumb.

I'm over it. Fabb dragged me back in today. But personally, I'm over it. I prefer it in. Don't care if it's not. I'd like everyone to get comfortable with having it both ways just for pace of play.

I got the hall pass for an Easter morning round. No golf tomorrow, which I'm OK with since the course will be muddy.

Next week looks so good weather wise, but I really need to get my lofts bent which will burn a few days. We haven't released the pairings but SPCC is playing Woodmore in B Team next week.

I might head out to HG mid morning Monday if anyone wants to join.

> well guys....almost gave up golf yesterday afternoon.

> I've been battling surprise hosel rockets for about the last year or so (mostly in my head, it would only show up every once in a while) and hoped that when i started up this spring it wouldn't be an issue. Well it became an issue yesterday out at Bristow Manor on the range....after the **** in the pro shop wasn't going to let me out on the course b/c of a nine hole league (the entire back 9 only had 2 groups on it)....but that's another story altogether. I couldn't figure out what was causing it and really started getting irritated with it after about 10 in a row on the range. Heavily considered hanging up the sticks at this point because its rly not fun to play when you're worrying about that on every swing.

> Anyway, to make a long story short, i headed out onto the (empty) back nine and about half-way through the round decided it would be a good idea to check all my basics (grip, posture, weight, takeaway.....alignment). When i reached the alignment portion of my assessment, i discovered that i have consistently been aiming at least 20 yds right of my target, and as a couple of you have seen, I play a fade/cut. Evidently when you line up that far right and swing left....voilà

> Now hitting it much better and most of the mental issues have been resolved (the golf related ones at least)

As a frequenter of the “hosel adjacents”, I searched far and wide for remedies. I stumbled upon some content where it was stated that a sh*nk can sometimes be produced from a swing that was fractions of inches off from being a pure strike, and I really do believe that. I’ve concentrated on hitting the inside of the ball or even just inside the ball completely on the turf as a quick hack and it normally helps. Also doesn’t normally help to come from a million miles from the inside. The sh*nks are the worst feeling in sports when they have you in their grips.
