.580 Grips and .600 Shafts, will they work?

Hi Everyone. Question, I have some grips I like that are only available in .580 diameter but I am pretty sure the shafts of my irons are .600 from what I have read. Can I put these grips on these shafts with the size issue, and is there anything I should be aware of when I do? Thanks for any help.

Everything is measured to make the corresponsing shaft and grip equal .900"...which is considered "standard" if there is one.

.580 on a .600 will make the grip come out .20 over (it doesn't quite come out like that due to stretching), so .920". In reality, expect like a .915" diameter. Slightly larger than standard....

 

If you put a .58 on a .58 shaft, it comes out at ."900 theoretically, it just has a thicker wall on the grip to bring the diameter up to a standard grip diameter.

A .580 grip on a .600 shaft IS standard for many companies and players. That's what I prefer.

Feel is always very subjective. The size is less than midsize. More like a standard build with an extra layer to 2 layers (depending on what tape you use) of tape.

Is the .920 diameter from a 580 on a 600 with or without the one piece of tape?

Standard setup; one wrap of double-sided tape.

just came down from playing midsized grips and the .58 feel great on .60 shafts. Midsize grips are very bulky under the butt end, 58 rounds I would say are like 40% between a regular and midsize.

Not far off, but just a bit less than that.

 

Midsize is +1/16" or +0.0625"

.580 on .600 is only  +0.020.   

That's 32%  or roughly 1/3rd.

 

It's roughly equivalent to +1 wrap of 0.015" double sided tape or +2 wraps of 0.010" build up tape.
