Monte's efficient swing

i*windows

Recommended Posts

So, now that it's out and I'm sure most of the buyers have applied the videos in some sort of sense at the range over the past few days, what's everyone applying for the feels / feedback for your successful swing? I'm still trying to figure everything out and purposely going slow slow slow. I've always had a problem with my right shoulder dropping / collapsing and pulling down on the shaft. After my first sessions though, things are on the up and up.

I'm focused on the lower-body drills for now, as the crucial flaw Monte identified for me at the clinic was maintaining too much flex in my trail knee. I've been doing heel/toe reps here at home in front of a mirror, while ensuring that I straighten that trail leg when shifting into the trail heel.

Keys for me that the video has reminded me to work on are proper wrist movement in transition & pressure shift into right heel on backswing, but without slide.

After a lot of give and take from drills over the year with a thousand different coaches, I just don't think I get into my left side. I actually had a thread in here posted showing my zipper away drill and it always resulted in way way better contact but, I start over doing it and that with a steep shaft equals dead pulls and 2 inch deep divots. There is a lot of good things to learn from this series and all of his others. Buy it buy it buy it.

Nice... but a LOT to absorb right from the outset of playing golf! I was thinking, wondering what would be the place to start? I'm of two minds. First would be at the outset of backswing. Second...wow, not sure. I'd be interested what Monte would suggest...

I am still at the backswing. I am determined to get it back on plane with some width... I think it's so much easier to do the transition if the backswing is really tight. I have to go real slow not to suck the head inside - STILL. Arrgggghhh. But when I don't and then if I rotate the arms to the top, the result is a shallowed shaft and quality strike. This is a great great roadmap.

I started at the beginning and hit and filmed 60 shots to p2 only trying to nail that positioning. Did the same thing the next three days. Swing has improved tons just from that, it’s crazy what you notice when everything is slowed down and confined to just that small segment of the swing.

I’ve seen Monte in person and been given the left shoulder down drill, etc, but I’m not even looking at the transition drills (where I actually need the most help) until I lock in the first parts of the course. What’s the rush right? ?

This series doesn't cover the setup fundamentals that a true beginner would need some instruction to master (grip, stance, posture, ball position, etc.).

True, but those are things that I feel like a competent player can fairly easily explain to someone just starting. It's pretty easy to show someone a proper grip, athletic posture, and where to place the ball. The hard part is practicing and engraining those fundamentals so they are consistent over time.

D4D covers the set up.

This will a fun, set up from D4D and I'll just have her follow each segment in the chronological order Monte placed in ES and see the results.

It’s going to be part of a free tier I’m releasing...it’s coming shortly.

This is exactly my thinking and my results. 6 months to go thru implementing video is my guess

At p2 we want the club pointed down the target line, I've got that locked.

Should left arm be pointed right down the target line as well ideally?

I'm a little bit outside it with a good deal of body arm separation (what Rory talks about working to correct in this video)

His arm on the following full shot is inside the target line:

If that's correct I'll just try to match that.

Thanks!

Excellent. I've been preaching the gospel according to Monte to my circle of regular playing partners. Maybe this will help them see the light.

To each his own, but I bet you’re in the minority especially about the segments. I’m not sure how being able to move from an explanation of each individual swing part, to instruction, to drills in any order at any time is bad.

Glove: ML
Tees: 2 3/4
Towel: white
Repair tool: metal
Ball Marker: largest poker chip in the world
Iron headcovers: wait, what?

The feedback system is annoying

You can DL and watch within the app, just too easy to get burned allowing full files to be downloaded. The segments are perfect IMO. Building a swing takes segments/steps, you can really only work on one thing at a time. This makes it easy, otherwise it's like drinking water from a fire hose.

LOL, is that because she is loving the golf in the videos or is smitten with the man in the white belt? Careful!

Seriously, that is great news for you! My wife was a tennis player growing up but also played a little golf and enjoys playing. She has enjoyed a little instruction with Monte.

HaHa! Touche!

Now I have to get a warm microfiber cloth and clean this morning's Chemex magic off the screen of my laptop, LOL!

Listening to some California Jazz and watching the new series again this morning before heading out for some golf.

This is the one thing I've been applying since last June, in the vid it's "Flatten the Shaft" but for me it wasn't take it up to the top and drop then go, it's get to approximately 90 degrees and go (Chris is obviously more advanced, lol). If I ever film my swing and send to Monte (an empty threat going on how many years, haha) he may send me in a different direction if things are working, or I'll just wait until June and see what's next! My daughter, the smart one, filmed Monte doing it then me being told how to do it by Monte so my thick head would remember for more than a few minutes.
