Going Lighter

I think its time.......I'm finding that I either really liked lighter playing equipment and didn't know it or my age has taken me here. Either way its time. I've been tinkering with the idea of going lighter in my irons for a few years. The rest of my bag is what I'd consider to be pretty light already. I've been playing dynamic gold s300 stiff for a long time and I've had great results from them. I love the way they load, love the flight and the feel of a well struck shot. I just hit the launch monitor a few weeks ago with driver and it was 95mph. My macgregor iron set is old school lofts and I usually hit a 7 iron just shy of 150. I think going lighter in my set would most importantly feel better, give me more distance and also help me late in the day. I've had my eyes on the new Dynamic gold 105's for a bit and I'm sure I could make them work but I'm thinking I may want to go even lighter into something like a recoil 95. Can anyone share some comparisons of these or make some suggestions on what else to look at possibly. We have a huge demo days coming up in town and I plan to test out shafts with hopes of finding something to put in my Macs this year.

DG 120 is 10 grams lighter than regular DG and will be a noticeable weight reduction. Going all the way to DG 105, which plays at 97 grams after being cut to standard length, would be a huge weight reduction and might not be easy to adjust to. You are the only one that can make the decision of course so demoing would be in order.

I most admit, I've not tried the DG120's. Kind of skipped right over them. I probably should give them a try too. Thanks.

I played DG300 (stiff) forever. I am getting a little up in years (58) and had a chance to buy a barely used set of Srixon irons (what I was looking for) with a set of Steelfiber i95s (Stiff). To me they feel very similar to the DG300 in terms of performance, just lighter. I picked up a few yards, but probably a combination of shaft and lofts. I didn't feel any lost of control or dispersion. I still prefer heavy shafts in my wedges (S400's). I don't think I'll be going back to steel. I feel better late in the round, and the shock transfer through the shaft is greatly reduced.

My back up set of irons is still DG300 so I still play both, but always prefer the i95s.

What shaft is the Dynamic Gold 95. Is that the XP line?

Not the XP line although I played the XP95 - nice shaft. The 95 model in the Dynamic Gold line isn't available in U.S. market, only Asia. Got mine from TOURSPECGOLF. I tried the U.S. 105 model BUT the 95 was certainly a better fit for me. I had no problem transitioning from regular weighted Dynamic Golds. Link below:

It'll take a little time to adjust to all changes, including the ones that's "good for you".

After I considered going lighter in overall static weight on my golf clubs, there had been a few years of going back and forth trying to find a spot for the changes but, eventually, I just have to fit it into my golf game.

Since when the clubs for 170-200 had changed to hybrids instead of irons, now perhaps a lofted fairway wood to replace the hybrids......

I agree with the statement of the drastic changes in weight reduction will take longer to adjust. And if you jump to the extreme end on the first leap of changes then, there will be nothing to look forward to in the future. Going 20gm. less in shaft weight will make a difference, fun to try to adjust the feel after reshafting.

Good luck with your search, there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I've tried the 1150GH Tour, didn't care for them. Is the 1050 similar or different?

I kinda like that idea.......think I may consider staying nearer the 110gm area more so than the sub 100 category. I'm going to test out graphite stuff and steelfibers at the demo days and if nothing stands out try the DG 120's. Thanks.
