Srixon Z585 finish

So I got my Z585s yesterday and went to the range and after about 40 shot with my 7 this is what the sole looks like. Is it because of the soft forged body? I took a look at my cast hot metals which I have played for a couple of seasons and they don’t look anything like that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but those heads are bright chrome plated are they not? Assuming yes, scratches on the finish are normal. The HM irons are satin chrome so they don't show the marks as readily.

Hmm. I have been looking at used z585's at Roger Dunn and while I didn't pay a lot of attention to the sole wear, I don't recall seeing any that looked unusually worn.

I have the 945s, and had 765s before that, they never looked like that....

Yea.....not sure, seems pretty low quality to me. Love the feel of the clubs but concerned about wear after 24 hours of owning them

On the X85 Srixon range, the back of the head is chrome finish and the front of the head appears to be a bead blasted satin finish. The sole of the club has both finishes in either side of the V sole. Hope that helps!

I have Z945's with about 30 to 40 rounds on them. I baby them outside of hitting the ball and they look MUCH worse than that. The chrome is high quality but the forging is soft. I can't judge the light scratches with pics but mine have lots of heavier stuff. Soft is soft whether hitting a ball, or anything harder that can be found in the ground.

My z785 didn't look like that after hitting on mats. I no longer have them, but finish was great

Mine look nothing like that and I play in sandy, gritty soil conditions.

Move off the sandpaper, mats or top dressing.

 

Shallow out too,....it is a golf club, not a spade.

Sweet Jesus, Maddie just got me these 765’s and if that’s the wear pattern, scr** it, I’ll just leave the plastic wrap on em, put em in the closet and keep my Mizzy 25’s in the bag and take em out and look at em occasionally?

 

How’s the grip?

 

Should I take the plastic off or no???

If you want you irons, tools that are used multiple times a round to hit a ball off Mother Earth, sometimes uneven rough ground, to look brand new forever, do what Richard wants to do and leave them in your cupboard with the plastic wrapping on!!!!

For the record, you would be doing yourself a disservice not hitting those clubs, Richard. With the right shaft, they are great!

The mat type makes all the difference in the world. There are two ranges by me, one I can hit all day and just wipe the bottoms of my clubs clean and they look the same as when I started. The other range... I don't even go there anymore because after 10 shots I saw my club looking like yours from the pic... and it didn't wipe off...

 

Some artificial mats are just crazy abrasive it seems. But that isn't the clubs fault...

Thanks for everyone’s inputs. I was hitting off of grass. Guess the ground just had a lot of sand in it. I am up in New England so still early season conditions. Just was curious if anyone else’s wore this way and concerned about quality. I have played numerous chrome plated clubs in past and they never looked like this after a quick ranged session. Maybe it’s the 1020 carbon vs the 1025

This is my 8 iron after 2 seasons at least, of hard use, playing in rain, mud, sand, as well as thousands of range balls, both grass and mats. For the record, I don’t use iron covers and my clubs bash around in my trunk all year round.

That would make a difference if it’s not mats. Was the range sandy/recently seeded? If so, that’s probably your answer... if not, that’s very odd.

Have had my irons for a few months now. Play in Arizona, firm/sandy conditions. No issues with the wear at all. Guessing I have 15-20 rounds on them with multiple range sessions. 7 and 9 show the most wear.

Where did you buy them from? Were they direct from Srixon/a regular retailer? I'm in the boat with others, I've never seen wear anything close to that on Srixon irons having been selling them for close to 3 years now. 65-85 lines, and my dad's 501s didn't look like that after a year's use either.

Here is my 8 iron, I probably hit 20-25% of my range balls with this club, on a fairly sandy driving range....
