Need advice on getting it up

I just have to say it and I don't know how it can help but an entirely new set of irons for the performance of one 4 irons seems questionable.

Beyond that, worrying too much about long iron performance seems like a fools errand in general based not on being foolish but on diminishing return, since we don't make the next putt after 4iron nearly often enough to matter.

Like the guys are suggesting if you can find a shaft you like or a single utility iron that seems a simpler solution to the problem and more likely to keep your scores and performance steady albeit not shinier. I love shiny too!

I get it the cost of new set is NOT that bad. But it's worse than just getting a lighter shaft, lighter steal or maybe graphite you can extend the length a bit for a club someone with your SS rarely has into greens anyways I imagine.

Just for fun I pulled up TW's specs and I wonder if he is utilizing similar loft in his 3iron as you are with your 4?

FWIW Pardraig isn't beyond getting a lil help with his 4 either. I understand very few aspire to be him anymore but he has won 3 majors and played for a living he's probably a decent ball striker.

Anyways F&G's!

I suggest checking out the G410 irons and giving the G410 hybrids a chance. There shouldn't be any issues with yardage gaps. I am a mid-handicap player that plays with a 7 wood. I just bought a set of G410 irons 6 - SW. The new clubs have strong lofts, so I only have a 20 yard gap between by 6i and 7w. If I wanted to fill that gap I wouldn't hesitate to buy the G410 5 hybrid which is easier to hit than the 5i. Ping marketing says the G410 are designed specifically for mid handicappers and if they built just one set of irons it would be the G410.

I'm not _that_ dense , I mean obviously I understand that buying a full new set of irons just for this is kind of dumb, part of it is that I just want new irons too. So if I get new stuff I just want to make sure I do it right.

I do hit my 4 iron a lot though so it is important to me. We have 27 holes and 6 of the 7 par 3's can play 200+ yards depending on flag location. We also have 3 par 4's that play 450yds . Some rounds I'll use it a few times. And I'm generally trying to shoot good scores so I want to hit good shots

If I get a new set it's because I want to do it anyway but will focus on the 4-5 iron being optimal. If not I'll swap in a KBS tour 90 and see if it helps

My 4 iron now is 23 degree FYI

> Dare I say you’ll have the same issue with an SGI set? What you need is a progressive set, like the i210’s. The launch is progressively higher as you get through the set. It will fix your problem in as little as 30 minutes, Cialis style.

I think that this could be the best advice. The i210's won't be such a dramatic change from the Apex Pros. And Montreal Jeff could substitute a G410 4-iron, which would work nicely with the i210's.

Same problem as OP. Went to hybrids to raise launch/carry. Things improved, or so I thought until I tried the PING 400 #7 wood at 20.5*, with up to 1* of adjustability. WOW - what a game-changer for me.

Now I carry G30 irons #5-U, a G400 #3 wood (+1*) and a PING G400 #7 wood. Gapping is pretty nice, plus the ability to hit medium, high and super-high shots from 190-210 yards is mucho fun with the #7 wood.

Ironically I got outside and am not having the same problem. 4 iron launching high and good enough

The monitor might have been giving me some incorrect readings

Haha, between the LM and the indoor range which uses range balls, I guess I wasn't getting the best feedback!
