2016 M2

I'm currently gaming the Taylor Made 2016 M2. Question is....is it time to update my driver? I hit the M2 ok, but have any of you switched out your M2 for something else? Driving is not my strong point and I'm wondering if a new driver would help. It looks like there are a lot of M2 fans out there so have you tried anything else and stayed with your M2, or did you switch? I probably only carry the ball at the most 210 yards off the tee.

Callaway Mavrik Max 10.5, set at 9.5 stock R-flex
Taylormade M2 3 wood R-flex stock shaft.
Tour Edge Exotic EX9 hybrids, 2 and 5 Recoil R-flex shaft.
Taylormade P790 5-PW Modus 105 R-flex shafts
Titleist Vokey 50,54 and 58 wedges
Odyssey 2 ball.

The only diver out there that even interests me is the M6, however after watching numerous videos and side by side comparisons between the two there is not much of any performance gain. Iā€™m sticking with my 2016 M2 as well.

Ā

Itā€™s early in the year so I would say go to a demo day near you to try different clubs and definitely try different shafts in your M2. The M2 matched with a shaft that works for you is a hard combo to beat.

I say go for it. To me the M4 and M6 look a lot better and are a tad more forgiving. I recently traded a 2016 M2 for an M4 and wonā€™t look back. If nothing else it makes me feel better having a driver 2 generations newer for a $180 upgrade cost with trade-in credit. Performance wise I think the stock shaft in the M2 was better.

Still swinging the M2 and have compared it to some of the newer offerings. As someone stated earlier: if you have a shaft in the M2 that fits your swing, it's going to be very hard to find something better.

I'm going to game my 2016 M2 until the face cracks.

Personally find it to be plenty forgiving, if it goes THAT bad I know it's me and no driver is going to prevent that. It delivers numbers as good as anything released in the three years since it came out.

I prefer the look of the M3 and M4 behind the ball, but the difference for me is the sound/feel - for my ear, NOTHING released since the '16 M2 sounds as deep and solid, and therefore nothing feels as good. The newer Callaway's and TaylorMade's sound louder and more shrill/metallic. You might like that though.

I was actually late to the '16 M2, been gaming it for about a year. I just invested in a Tour AD IZ for it. My '16 M2 is going nowhere.

I canā€™t believe the prices on eBay for the 2016 M2! Never seen an old TM driver selling for prices that high.

I upgraded from the 16 M2 to the new M6 and have regretted it. M6 didnā€™t have enough spin and just didnā€™t get the carry I did with the M2.

Ā

I now have the G410 Plus and have been pretty happy with it so far.

I'm currently bagging the M5 with my 16M2 8.5 TI head on the sidelines. Distance wise, nothing is going to beat the 16M2 on the purest strikes. It's as long as anything I've ever gamed or probably ever will.

Ā

I do find the M5 to be more forgiving and the adjustability really allows you to dial things in. Sound and feel is also an upgrade with the M5.

Ā

Bottom line- I'd still be happy gaming my M2 but considering I got the M5 for free with the 150% trade-in promo, I'll continue to game the M5.

I have a 2016 M2 10.5*, regular shaft - just like the OP. I get the same distance from that as my G25, and both of those are a little longer than my G400. I think that it is shaft dependent in the G25, because my G25 (9*, but played in + position) regular shaft frequencies firmer than the other regular shafts that I tried when I bought it. I got lucky with that shaft. The 2016 M2 is a little easier for me to play right to left, so I play it from time to time. I almost gave it to a friend, but I'm glad I didn't, as i had a nice driving day with it last fall.

Ā

I will be trying a G410 at some point this summer. You never know where you can find a unicorn.

I went from 2016 M2 to 2017 M2 to M4 back to 2016 M2. It's an awesome club. That said, I'm in love with the M5. Sounds better than M6 to me. I've struggled to play a cut shot but this one does it. I've never had better control with a driver. It's paired with a 130 Rogue White thanks to TollBros. I'm sure the 2016 M2 could compete in distance but the forgiveness, adjustability, and feel of the M5 is the best driver I've ever hit.

I have a '16 m2, pure distance impossible to beat

Now for straightness and long drives I have found the '16 GBB to be better. Also my gamer is a G400 LST ... super straight and not prone to the bigger misses the m2 sometimes delivers. I prefer the smaller footprints of the above 2 drivers. When I go from the LST to the M2 .. the m2 looks MASSIVE to the point it is offputting

Its a bomber of a head, best feeling of all of the M series heads. I would be gaming it if I could track down an 8.5 head. I have a retail and t.i. 10.5 with 70tx pro orange and they launch a little high even turned down 2 degrees. Nothing is going to produce better ballspeed than this head. My superfast long hosel gives me a better flight and is only 1-2mph less ballspeed, spin rates are lower with the superfast. The 16m2 is One of the best units ever made.

I want to love it because the distance and accuracy is there, but the feel is just so "bleh" to me. Even with the AD DI. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe I could post a sound bite of the sound I make every time after I hit it. Went back to 910 D3 for now. Might be losing a couple yards but I've got to have a good feeling driver. Distance isn't everything to me.

Thanks for the replies. My current M2 shaft is the stock R that I cut down a few inches. I think I will get another shaft and try it because it sounds like the responses are confirming that the M2 is still a great driver. I did go to a shop the other day and tried a Ping G410, Callaway epic and an M6. I still feel that my M2 feels much better than any of them. Now to try and figure out a new shaft. I imagine that it will be strictly guesswork. I don't know of any place to try new shafts in my current driver.

Any of the big box stores like Golf Galaxy should have plenty of shafts to try. Once you figure out what profile of shaft you need, then you can find several with the same profiles to try with your M2.

Love the 2016 M2... in my opinion it was far better than the 2017 M2... I hated the M3... M4 was just okay... also tried the G400... like OG M2 better than all of the above. Probably TMs best driver ever in my opinion. I'm currently in the honeymoon phase w my F9, but M2 isn't going anywhere. Love that driver.

This driver for me has been as good as anything, and my longest drives these days never seem to eclipse my previous driver, although avg is up. M2 is just working great, staying with it.

Still holding onto my 16 M2 (Rogue black shaft) as well. Picked up a G400 Max last year but it couldn't kick the M2 out.

I picked up an F9 (HZRDUS Smoke shaft) this year and my miss is much more playable with little loss in ball speed / distance.. so for now it's staying in the bag. Echoing others though, when you hit the M2 dead nuts nothing is going to beat it.

The only thing that has challenged my 2016 M2 is the ST180 (and the 190 now). Still go back and forth depending on how I feel though
