Cannot just go by COG. Some low COG irons hurt distance because the low COG makes them launch higher. Yes, that is a “forgiveness” factor. But launching higher is not always better depending on the golfer.

I would rank the 585 as most forgiving on this list due to v-sole, followed closely by the Forged Tec.

I find the Ping 200/210 series more forgiving than the i500, which has less offset and my tendency is leaving the face open at impact so moderate offset helps. Not a fan of the i500. The 200/210 sound and feel better too.

The 785 and AP2 would be least forgiving on this list but both are pretty playable.

Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond 10.5 w/Diamana TB 60S

PXG GEN6 5 wood w/Diamana S-plus 70 stiff

Yamaha RMX VD 7 wood w/Diamana S-plus 70 stiff

Callaway Mavrik Pro hybrid (22) w/Aldila Tour Blue 85 stiff hybrid

Wilson Staff Model CB 5-G w/DG s300 shafts

Edel T grind 54 w/Nippon 125 wedge shaft

Fourteen RM-12 58 w/Dynamic Golds400

If you can't find the ball with the 2017 King Cobra Oversized Irons then golf isn't for you. When I first saw them on the racks at my local Golftown I thought it was an all hybrid set.

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter

"Loft for loft, length for length, and shaft for shaft, the ball will go the same distance when hit on the sweet spot regardless how old the iron."

Interesting. What does the MOI do for an iron as far as "forgiveness", flight, etc.?

MOI reduces the tendency for the club to twist when contact is off the center of gravity of the head, such as out on the toe, so more energy is transferred to the ball.

Got it and thanks! These maltby ratings and the differences of opinion on COG vs. MOI are really enlightening.

IT is interesting to me that the 718 AP1 has an MOI of 14.60, while the AP2 has an MOI of 14.77. You would think that it would be the other way around.

Well AP1 has lower VCOG:

AP1

VCOG: .755

AP2

VCOG: .803

But that doesn't seem like that much of a difference to account for a maltby rating of 813 for the 1s and 508 for the 2s.

BUT, the MOI CF is 29 for the 1s and 15 for the 2. First of all, what is that? The MOI in the center of the face? Two, why is that so important and, apparently, it almost accounts for all of the huge difference in Maltby rating?

edit: wait a second, the MOI CF for Ping 410s is 0? I don't get it then why the AP2 is rated so much lower than the AP1 in Maltby playability

Maltby rated the TM P730’s at an MPF of 15. That just illustrates the severe rigidity of his system and why sometimes a given MPF rating seems quite logical while at other times it misses the mark by a mile becoming completely irrelevant or meaningless. This is particularly true of players cb’s and blades.
