I've not done anything with Shawn, but I have done a few online lessons now with another instructor and it has greatly improved my game. It will be 1 year in June since I started working with him again after a layoff from golf. I think it just depends on your learning style. If you really need hands on learning, with someone putting their hands on you and moving you into positions you're probably not going to do well with them. On the other hand, if you can understand concepts, process the information, intents & goals of what the instructor wants you to work on and monitor yourself I think they can be beneficial. There areplenty of people on here who have done online lessons with various instructors ( @iteachgolf , @MonteScheinblum , George Gankas, Mike Bender, etc) and had success via that channel.

OK thanks @juststeve! I guess by "work" I meant does Shawn's lessons provide value. In that I mean is there enough quality instruction information in a Facetime lesson to help the student begin on the correct path to make significant swing changes. Furthermore, does that lessons spur the student to continue on with Shawn's instruction that ultimately lead to lower scores. Yes hard work by the student will be key to lower scrores. But, I'm looking for a instructor and a media format that leads to improvement. So maybe I will adjust the title to better clarify. Thanks.

Also @juststeve I would be interested to see if you have any thoughts on MDLT vs Clement. It seems to me, in my limited knowledge, there are some similarities. Ultimately, the goal of both seems to be swing the club (arm club unit or clubhead) to the target and ignoring complicated swing position teaching? Thanks.

I've followed Clement quite regularly since 2013, went to him in-person for half day on one of his visits to Phoenix a couple of years ago. It has truly made the game simpler for me, and greatly improved my swing thru the ball.

I had used the more compact 3/4 limited backswing methods of Trahan b4 Clement, but episodes of a painful lead elbow and limited driver success got me away from that one and into Clement.

With my fullswing using the SC method, my best success is to play a draw in all my irons shot, just swinging out into a low/mid/high window at about 01:00 with 12 noon being straight out to center field. I can play fade or draw in my woods/driver using SC and no body part hurts using it.

I have watched such a large chunk of his video library online that it has become ingrained in my instinct. I can't give a stroke count of improvement comparisons, but I just recorded my first ace ever a few days ago. Into a 10mph wind, 175yds. with about another 5 more for slope on a tilting up back right pin - 5 iron draw (as usual). Here is attempt at a shot trace by me on my iphone photo from behind the hole looking back towards the tee.

Wow @avguy! Congrats on the Ace. Still waiting on my first. Also, thanks for the great feedback on SC. I think his method of target focused golf is just what I might need to get my brain uncluttered from so many position based swing thoughts for a free flowing golf swing. Appreciated the feedback. Hopefully, there are more aces for you on the horizon.

I love his teaching. I have not used his lessons though. I do know a colleague that went to one of his clinics, and improved a lot. However, he totally abandoned what he learned from him, to go after something else, and his game has gotten back to what it was before SC. I am not sure why he stopped the method, but I am his thinking along the lines is that "it was too simple, and I want to be able to hit further, shape better". He may be chasing a violent turn, leaving the hands up style swing now....

After seeing his latest swing, he needs to go back to SC method.

I think SC is solid from what I saw.

The ONLY way to hit a ball straight to the target is to make the club swing toward the target through impact with the club face square to the path. Anything else will produce a shot that curves. Therefore I assume that swinging the club in the direction of the target is an element of everyone's teaching, either expressly or implicitly. Clement is no exception although more explicit than some.

SC seems to belong in a group of instructors that favor a natural, less mechanic swing, using mostly natural leverage and sound fundamentals (grip, stance). I don't know how much the videos alone can work, especially if you're in the early stages of developing your swing. But I bet the guy must be a terrific teacher on a person to person basis. His swing makes sense, whether you like it or not. And I personally believe that this type of swing is of real help for amateur players, especially when playing. And what I like about the guy is he strongly believes in what he preaches. If he does it's because he's seen it work. Greatest reinforcement you can get from an instructor.

There's no such thing as a natural golf swing. Nothing is natural about trying to swing a stick 100 mph and hit a golf ball. If people would feel more comfortable with unnatural feelings they'd probably get better faster. If it feels natural then you're just swinging the same way you always have. Any change is going to feel unnatural.

I started watching Shawn’s videos back in 2010. I liked his swing and I was already swinging in a somewhat similar manner. I had always played my best golf with a smooth transition. Shawn calls that “waiting for the weight”. I tended to get in front of the ball a little bit which would lead to a pull with my irons. A bunch of his videos talked about keeping the head back so I worked on it. The thought of staying a bit more behind the ball allowed a few other things to happen like opening up the lead hip while keeping the trail hip from moving in towards the ball. As well, I had lots of room to let the arms swing past my body. I was playing once a week without practice and I had some of my best rounds including some 1 or 2 under par. I enjoyed the fact that I didn’t have a big miss which would always lead to one or two double bogeys.

I finally went for a lesson a few years ago. I wanted to meet him in person. I took my son who was 10 and just starting to get into golf. Shawn watched me hit a few and said my swing was very good. He gave me a few suggestions about alignment and intermediate target and that was it. He wanted to help my son. By the end of the lesson my son was carrying his 7 iron about 140 and rolling out to 150. Shawn was super nice and my son couldn’t believe how well he was hitting the ball. After our lesson he had a playing lesson to give a lady but said to go get more balls and keep hitting as long as we wanted. Shawn is a good guy and we were happy to have met him.

I can only speak based on watching his YouTube videos, but the following are some swing thoughts that have greatly improved my ballstriking:

-“Sending” the ball to the target (I always had a habit of swinging like the ball itself was the target)

-Having an intermediate target

-Feeling as though you’re throwing the club

-His perpetual motion concept

Did a 30 minute FaceTime lesson with Shawn. Its was great. Shawn is a great person and very knowledgeable on the golf swing. I love his simple swing theory. No more being bogged down by complicated swing and body positions during the swing. Its time to unclutter my mind and focus on the the task of swinging to the target. I'm excited to see where the Wisdom In Golf journey takes my game.

How much did that run you and what did he think of your swing?

Cost was $60. He thought my swing was decent to begin with. He said I need to keep my eyes and head still on the backswing and focus on hitting shots to the target. Pick a flight plan with an intermediate target and ball flight trajectory. This was so much more simplified than what I was doing which was focusing on hand club and body positions. When I do it Shawn’s way and do it right, good things happen. I highly recommend a 30 minute FaceTime lesson!
