Shaking The Winter Rust Off

This is going to sound stupid because I know that each individual has a different swing and a different pattern of misses. But, after this latest off season, I am finding myself in a position that I've never really been in before. It seems I have completely forgotten how to hit the center of the club face. I've got 2 rounds under my belt with 2 range sessions in between. So, I've been out four days and have done nothing but either hosel it or barely missed the hosel and hit a weak fade.

 

I'm in a spot where I don't even know where to begin. I'm mentally a mess. Can't address the ball without worrying about how far away I am, or how strong my grip is, or my posture, or some other godforsaken thought. The few times I've managed to rid my mind of this, I still shank the ball. I've missed so far that I've hit the opposite side of the hosel and it dribbles dead left.

 

A few things I think this could be. I've been rehabbing a bad back and did a lot of work this off season to strengthen and stretch my back and my hamstrings. I could have a new inbalance that I need to figure out. The other thing is I played in a simulator league. The sim is not particularly accurate and probably rewards bad habits. I'm finding that I'm setting up too far left at times and coming in steep. The key to success on the aim was to swing hard and launch the ball low.

 

I've fought through swing issues in the past. But, I at least had some ideas what the issues we're. At this point, nothing I do seems to lead to a result other than a shank. I'm a 3.6 cap that is struggling to make a 90.

 

I know the short answer is to see an instructor. But, I don't think any of our local guys seem to work with anything but beginners. I don't have faith that they'd be able to offer any meaningful input. Plus, it's not like they know my swing from years past to be able to tell me what's changed.

 

I'm half here to vent. I'm half here to catch an ultimate word of wisdom from someone who's been in my shoes that can tell me what they did to reengrain the basics.

Shanks could be caused by a number of issues. You might get more mileage here by posting a vid of your swing.

You're right. I am half hoping my seeing turns into something meaningful. But, since this doesn't appear to be something that's going away on its own, I'll be taking one the next time I'm at the range.

The closest thing I have to my current swing is a video from a couple months back. I don't know that it's a accurate representation though. This swing felt good. Currently it does not. Also, apparently my friend doesn't understand what tape my swing means vs tape where the ball goes.
