Is Francesco Molinari done?

The takes on this site sometimes are hilarious. Obviously there's a fair chance he doesn't sustain his current career best form long term but good players don't win majors all the time. I like his chances at Pebble and Portrush this year.

Agreed. I forgot about Portrush. I don't know much about that course but seems like it might favor the way he plots his way around a course.

> Beatle (see what I did there?), I don't think you have any reason to worry. Francesco's already had the opportunity to go toe to toe with Tiger and win. Will he be as dominant as Tiger was from 2000-2004, no, but no one will ever be like that. No one who follows golf would be surprised if he picked up a major this year, and I don't think he's prone to dumb mistakes like Norman. He's also way more talented than Faldo (I see Faldo as kinda the inverse of John Daly - he made the absolute most of his talent), and I'm sure he'll be back in the major winner's circle in the next 24 months.

Enough of the Norman bashing ?

But seriously, Faldo backed into 2 of his three green jackets. Look at how fine the line was between victory and crushing defeat in their carers. Hoch misses a 2 foot putt to give Faldo his first Masters, poor old Norman has a journeyman sink a one in a thousand chip to steal a green jacket from his grasp. Norman lost majors whichever way he played them, both from choking or being over aggressive, but if he played it safe some guy sinks a miracle chip to beat him. He was certainly snake bit in majors.

In response to the OP, Molinari will carry some mental baggage from this one. Spieth is yet to fully recover his mojo after his Masters meltdown.

And the fact that OP ended his terrible take with #TDO is an insult. You pale to The Dark One, sir. He would chew you up and spit you out

The same people calling him Mr Iceman, and things of that sort, are thinking too short term of his successes so far....

His record is irrelevant. By the gist of this thread, he hit it in the water on 12, hit it in the water on 15, and will be working at a Pep Boys in a month. NTTAWWT.

That 12th hole at Augusta - it's uncanny how many have lost the tournament there. Why don't people learn to just go at the middle and take the water and double bogey out of play. It wasn't just FM, but BK & Finau too. That was a classic GOAT move by Tiger and a similar strategy used by Jack and that's let the field come back to you. FM just grabbed the wrong club on 15 it wasn't like he chunked it. In any event he will be back but if he is ever paired with Tiger again in the final round I can't help but think that Augusta 2019 won't be haunting him down the wire.

Well he’ll have the 2018 Open to fall back on probably.

I agree with ya. He was tense and by my way of thinking, it wasn't just a little bad luck with a pine cone. Molinari cracked big time on 15.

Bogying 12 and then Tiger making birdie on 14 got to Molinari in the worst way. His worse mistake at 15 started on the Tee and driving his ball behind a tree. Then on a pretty simple (for a pro) punch out into the fairway he over cooks it to the left side rough. The pine cone and resulting wet ball was the culmination of 2 previous pretty poor shots in a row.

He just seems like one of those 'little train that could' types. Like an Italian Spieth without the incessant need for a towel. I'll take yer bet as well as toss in some fuzzy dice for the rear view.

Completely agree. If he hadn't won at Carnoustie last year then yeah this could have long lasting effects. I would go so far as to say his dinner tasted pretty decent Sunday night. The guy lost to Tiger Woods. Not Lenny Schmekman, a club pro from Pittsburgh.

> As a great fan of Italian golf, I worry that Francesco will now fall down the same path so many have after a **brutal collapse/choke** against Tiger...The water balls on 12 and 15 remind me of Greg Norman in 96...it is truly difficult to ever bounce back in a major again after this.. i could see him doing well in regular tour stops like Wentworth or exhibition/charity events like the Ryder cup....but I feel as though Francesco's intimidation factor is now gone and the "francesco effect" is no longer alive...i only bring this up because there are not many great Italian golfers to root for ...As an Italian-American i was rooting for Francesco to pull it out on Sunday...Faldo's career was never the same after Tiger showed him what the future of golf would look like in 97' and I fear Francesco will go down the same path...#TDO

I like your take on the topic. This past weekend at Augusta the whole rest of the field looked not much different against Tiger than the Hal Sutton's and the Rocco Mediate's of the past. Thanks to Tiger at least this last generation of chumps can take comfort in the prize money for 2nd place and back (third loser, fourth loser)and so on.
