For purposes of this poll, I’d rather be short. In real life, I’ll obviously grab an iron that carries further if I’ve got to clear water in front of a green.

I don’t think there is a correct choice here because it’s obviously course specific... I play many different courses so I would rather neither as an option.

I thought I read a stat that said 80% of amateurs miss short rather than long on greens missed in regulation. When they had the same testers game up a club on approach shots they shaved almost 4-6 strokes off a round. I can't remember the handicaps that fell in this area but I still found it an interesting conclusion.

Short and long can be pulling the wrong club. Short can also be a mishit. Long is rarely a mishit unless you rarely catch the ball solid and then do. Most people weigh their options especially when there’s a tricky pin that requires an almost perfect shot then go from there. This poll is rather pointless as every hole is different and trouble can be anywhere around the hole dictating where the best “miss” will be.

I think Mr. Crossfield knows exactly what I am trying to get here

In the video, he mentions he is "consistently" miss short with his 5 iron, so he switched to low spin knuckle AP1 6 irons.

He does not state the possibility of being too long with 6 irons but he definitely made choice over higher chance of being short.

Not where I play. Long and you are in woods on a lot of my holes

Seems like it's an easy decision, then. ✌
