I’ve played that course a few times....

Pre-Katrina and post Katrina with a gazillion less trees...

I like it both times....has very unique coffin sized bunkers with huge humps...

Very easy to avoid but really cool looking....

Super fun course and I don’t think it was more than $130 (if memory serves)

I actually preferred the Nicklaus course they used to play it on but the TPC is very cool and super affordable...

Sure I'll bite. Do I think they should count? Nope. Should the tour at least be consistent and count World Cups won by Couples and Love, Duval and Woods and others? Yep.

Seems odd to get an "official"win but no ranking points. Might as well go whole hog if your going to call it a win.

Sam Snead could use 4 more wins.

Couples and Love get 4 more too.

Jack and Arnie would benefit the most with 6 more PGA Tour wins.

shilgy's right! ... shouldn't be a win, and i don't agree with the decision to give PGA, TPC & T of C ... just don't think a team event warrants PGA Championship status, or the other two ... maybe a 1 year exemption? ... or some type of extra-status role for the rest of the year or the next year ... most of the teams are PGA pros, so the 'status' question doesn't really affect them ... brooks' brother doesn't deserve tour status if he can't get there on his own ... and qualifying for the other tournaments should be individual, not team ... but, i do like the format ... not much else the tournament could've done to get some names in there and hold onto its place on the tour ...

Not sure there is a perfect answer. It would be very weird to count it as an official event, give out official prize money, Fedex points, and exemptions, but not count it as a win.

I agree that it feels like the winners of the old WGC team event get shortchanged, but they aren't the only ones. For a while, the Tour had a crazy rule that the China WGC only counted as a PGA Tour win if the winner was a current PGA Tour member. Retroactively changing the list of official wins is too confusing - I know they did it for the Open Championship, but it seemed it took years for everyone to get on the same page.

Also, there's already a lot of variation in what counts as a win anyway. Is winning a team event really less of an accomplishment than beating ~30 guys at Kapalua, or winning an opposite field event?

I'm just sad we are not seeing a MoliWood rehash. Guess Molinari is still primarily a Euro Tour player or needs a break after the Masters and not playing well at RBC.

Brooks is looking to carry his brother to the PGA. Whether it's fair or not, it's a really cool thing to do for your brother. If it was me I'd do it too. Sometimes they just need a break.

Yes players get to pick their partner. Chase Koepka is playing on a sponsors exemption. The same as 2017.

from PGA Tour.com...

FIELD: The starting field will consist of 80 teams (160 players). Each of the top available players from the PGA TOUR Priority Rankings who commits to the tournament will choose his partner, who in turn must have PGA TOUR status unless he is chosen as a tournament sponsor exemption.

Chase Koepka is in on a sponsor's exemption. And yes I imagine one given to him so they could get Brooks Koepka to show up.

What's interesting and often over looked is that Jack and Arnie have two team wins counted in their offical win totals from their pairing in the National Team Championship in 1970 & 1971 that was an official event on the PGA Tour during that time. The won it in 1966 as well but it was not an official event. The PGA Tour also had a team event at the old Walt Disney event from 1974-81 that counted as an official win for each player.

As for the Canada Cup/World Cup of Golf it was never considered an official PGA Tour event. The wins should not count as official. There is no reason for it to be an official PGA Tour event. Not sure how it could have ever been considered an official tour event since the PGA/PGA Tour never ran the event with with most years only two PGA Tour players were in the event.

> One of the more controversial teams withdrew on Monday, Steve Stricker and Jerry Kelly. The Senior Tour is also playing a team event this week, The Legends of Golf. Having a Senior Tour team play on the regular tour the same week raised a few eyebrows.

Why would it raise a few eyebrows? Stricker/Kelly played this event the last two years. The fact that this year it's opposite the team event on The Champions Tour shouldn't matter. Especially since Stricker is fully exempt on the PGA Tour this year and Kelly has partial status under category 35. Stricker, VJ and other senior tour players regularly play PGA Tour events that have a CT event the same week.

ETA: Stricker/Kelly withdrew to Stricker having an illness.

I can see your argument but other players in this event the last two years that are/were not PGA Tour players at the time were given sponsor exemptions into the event. This year Dru Love got an exemption to the event. Paired with his dad. Ryan Ruffels did as well the last two years (paired with Kyle Stanley & Jason Day). It's not just Chase Koepka.

For a few years, it was a WGC. The other WGC's count as both a European and a PGA Tour win.

Except the China WGC, which in its first year as a WGC didn't count as PGA Tour win (sorry, Phil). Then it did count as a PGA Tour win, but only if the winner was a PGA Tour member (sorry, Kaymer and Molinari). Then it finally did count as a PGA Tour win, regardless of the winner's status.

None of this stuff is tidy.
