Stuck on PING s55's

Found a very clean S55 4-P in my spec last year and pulled the trigger. Love the look like everyone else, but I’m in graphite and the stock graphite is so gaudy. Clashes with those clean heads. But I’m hitting them great and happy overall. Just ordered 50-degree Glide 2.0 as I like a gap wedge.

You can always find new graphite sets of shafts from a few years back hackerd. I just grabbed another set for under 100.

Nice! I use a 50* Glide for a gap wedge too. Since I actually like the CFS shaft, I had to buy a separate CFS stiff to put in it. It fits in seamlessly with the PW.

Stumbled upon this thread searching for something else, just some more good feedback. I have S55's with PX 5.5 shafts, they are perfect for me and have been very reliable, I have played Cally X14 Pro irons and then Cally xforged MB irons also with px 5.5 shafts and definitely Pings are the best feeling, most consistent, and the longest of the 3 sets of irons I have played over past 15 years of golf. Been using S55's for 3 years now and won a club championship and 2017 NCGA Associate Net Amateur with them. Handicap currently 11.2 now. :smile:

Well these clubs have re-booted out the T-mb's and Raptures again. I'm a slow learner FFS, but it seems I need thin soles for tight lies and also for cutting thru the rough, it could just be mental but there you have it.

The s55's truly are fantastic with the Fujikura MCI 100s shafts. Dispersion is tight and the shaft does not perform like a lightweight shaft. Ping bending my blended red and black dot set to all orange may be helping as I DO NOT MISS LEFT anymore. Also, this pseudo MOI deal where I start with the PW at 1.25" over length, add 1/4" to the 9i and then add 3/8" to each club after that - is also feeling very natural.

Looking at reactivating my "pre-release blueprint's order" after reading the bp's are toe miss friendly

The thing is I have a set of pulls of MCI 120x and part of me just says get a new set of s55's to toss them in !!!

I was a long time S56 player. Got some PXG 0311T’s in November and watched my index nearly double. Picked up a set of S55’s a couple weeks back, and it looks like my index will be cut in half by the time I post 20 scores. 5 scores so far.

I was debating the new 0211 pxg's but think I will stick with my long term Ping loyalty

It helps knowing the team at the Cdn office and they have the best service in the biz

That is a lot of birds my man. I played my iBlade without going to the range first and shot 81. They felt like home from first hit. 12 GIR. Two errant tee shots and a few 3 putts. Also missed 4 pretty good bird looks and only drained one on the day. Goes to show what properly fit and well designed clubs can do. Confidence is back.

Can you still get S55's through PING WRX? I've heard PING will still make old heads for people but not sure if that's just a myth...

 

I've never tried the S55's but have always wanted to, but I can't bring myself to buy a badly used set off the Bay, lol. I want to try them brand new :)

Let's just say in my men's nights this year, 4 weeks (Wed & Thurs) at 2 clubs, so 8 events ... I am not paying for my new 410LST driver or my blueprint irons, meow.

I'm pretty much out of the net scoring for the rest of the year with my cap now 1.6. Will have to survive on gross skins and gross score. It's easy to make cash when the cap is coming down

Must provide serial numbers for your clubs and are limited to two clubs at a time.

I play the i210 with 105X. I moved from PX 6.0. The 105X is lighter and not as harsh, but flights the ball very similarly to the PX 6.0 IMO. I'm very happy with the change.

4 under 32 on front side today. We won't talk about the back nine. I am still on track to cut my handicap in half in 20 rounds since going from PXG 0311t to S55's.

PING could just re-release an exact copy of the S55's with the new hydropearl finish to match it in the range, call it the S54 and it would fly off the shelves. They don't need to re-invent the wheel, just bring back the greats.

eBay is all I know of to find some used S55's. A new set will be near impossible to find.

I found a great clean set locally on offer up last month. People ship on there now as well. ( Slight brag here, but I got them for $150 w/ nippon modus shafts!) I purchased them to have something to play while I sold my i20s, as the plan was to buy new i210s by selling my old equipment. There will be no i210s. The s55s are staying in the bag.
