Dollar for Dollar I don't think there is a better ball than the Snell.

Agreed!

Cut = good but not so durable

Ksig (Original) = very good BUT hard to find now

Vice = really perform for $ if you buy in bulk

Snell = BEST alternative to major brand premium offerings (ProV/V1X, TP5/TZp5X, Chrome/Chrome X, X/XV). IMO you give up nothing and in some cases better the performance of these offerings + for me Snell MTB are SUPER durable for a premium ball. I like Vice as a second option but they can’t touch the all around performance of the Snell MTB which does everything “just right,” for me at a substantial $$ discount.

Anxious to try the new Snell X.

I love the Snell MTB Black. They are my main go-to, but I will play the MG Golf C4 as well. I think the C4 actually is a little longer, and it plays just like a ProV1 for me. At $19.99 a dozen, it is really hard to beat. When I'm playing a really tight course, I leave the Snell's in their sleeves and play the MGs. I'd rather lose them, and I don't lose any playability.

I play the Srixon Q Star Tour. You can find it in white for $20. I get the yellow directly from Srixon for $22.50+tax (four dozen for the price of three). Urethane cover is pretty durable. For my swing speed (90-95 mph driver), it performs as well as any other urethane ball.

For the money, Kirkland balls are insane. At a dollar a ball, there is no competition. This assumes they meet your minimum requirements for a ball. I’ve liked them just fine... we will see how I do with the remaining three dozen.

I like the snells too... but my game isn’t good enough to notice a significant difference. Might go back after upgrading clubs and game and see if they have an impact.

ive tried both the vice pro and vice pro plus. Both were solid performers and could happily game either. only think I didnt like what the matte, kinda egg white finish of the ball.

Had an iron fitting and played 2 rounds with the new Snell MTB-X and I think its the best ball ive personally ever played. I dont balloon the ball, but I launch high with low spin. During my iron fitting 6 days ago hitting 6 iron I was spinning the TP5x around 4400 and the Mizuno RB TourX around 5700. Ive already played 1 round but wasnt sure of numbers so I tried the Snell MTB-X on the monitor. Avg spin was 5200 with a 6i. Had extra time during my fitting so hit driver and the Snell spun 250rpm less than either of those balls

So to answer your question I think the Snell MTB-X is the best affordable premium ball and for me they fit my game more than the TP5x which I played the last 2 years

Last the longest... definitely Ksig3. Even my older ones in my shag bag that I practice with are in really good shape. Can't speak for Snell or vice....never played those.

Srixon all day long...

Sorry forgot to read the choices, and to be honest, haven't really tried any of those offerings. I am still open to the idea though.

I really love the new 2019 Pro V1, it's higher and somehow more spin! It's max stars for all you need in a ball but oh man the durability, 0 stars! I think it's even worse than 2018 ones. I don't really lose balls so I'm adding so many of them to practice. 1 bounce on the track and it's gone, struggles to finish 1 round of 18 holes. You can get past models at discount so that's a good bargain.

Srixon Z Star is the closest you can get to Pro V1 and it's 60% of the price with at least 3 x durability.

Pretty hard to find Snell balls outside US I think, haven't seen 1 where I am.

I just ordered 2 dozen mg... I think the Kirkland were costing me a significant amount of distance.

Wish the Snell golf balls were more reasonably priced up in Canada. At $45/dozen and having to wait on them to be shipped, it's hard to justify even trying them when they're only slightly less than the new 2019 Srixon's

Agree. Id probably go Srixon if that were the case for me too.

  • 4 weeks later...

Go buy a sleeve of Srixon Q Star Tour and give them a shot. I did a lot of experimenting last summer. Went thorough A dozen Snell MTB, A Dozen K Sig, 2 Dozen Vice Pro Soft, 1 DZ Pro, Callway Chrome Soft Tuvis(not budget) 2 Sleeves Cut.....But this spring I bought some 6 ball trial pack of the Q Star Tours and Holy Sh*T I am loving them. I am 52 driver ss (98-102) and last time out I hit a bunch of drives to landing areas I have not seen in over 10 years. I think a lot also has to do with my driver shaft combo but the ball feels great, good spin and you can buy 4 dozen for the price of 3 of there website, get free personalization, free shipping and not tax so 4 dz for $89.97 When I need to get some more The Q Star Tour is what I am buying.

They are all affordable. Its about priority and context I think. People seem to treat prov1's as an item of jewelry, not a golf ball. If you are losing prov1 (or similar) at a rate that makes it silly and adding significantly to the cost of your golf, use a two piece if its upsetting you.

I like the prov1x these days and I play off 18. I carry a dozen decent two pieces with me, and if my round on any day seems to feature ball losing performance, I play the two piece until the striking improves.

Expensive balls are way better though, and well worth the outlay

If you care about the cost of golf balls, don't play Titleist. That name alone entails a markup of several dollars a dozen, whether on urethane or Surlyn balls.

By any objective measure, a Maxfli Tour or Costco K3 or some of those 2-for-1 deal Srixon XV's are far better performing balls than a Titleist Tour Soft or TruSoft. But those other brand urethane balls are actually cheaper than the 2pc Surlyn Titleists.
