He brings in casual viewers and new players, but also, public courses are swarmed by newbies who have no clue how to conduct themselves. He brings massive ratings but over shadows other great world class talents. 1 stroke over 4 days is such a slim margin, respect should be given to the other contenders and how close this tournament was. There was some great golf played by a lot of players this weekend.

I mean are young kids now going to take up golf because a 43 year old man won the Masters? Are 20 somethings who are ignoring golf in droves going to be showing up at your course? Some, sure. But I'm not yet convinced about large numbers.

Yeap. Might be a lot of dudes showing up with swoosh apparel, shiny blade irons, TW hat, swoosh shoes and confident swaggers to accompany their 32 handicaps. Saw a lot of that in Vegas back in the early 2000's. Nothing against them but I was shocked how many folks invested heavy money into something that for many of them turned out to be a short lived hobby.

Haha! Exactly! I was at Santa Ana store yesterday at 1:30 and it was packed and I thought the same thing...

Lol. True. But then I still see plenty of middle-aged to older guys with $2K+ sets that have been playing for 30 yrs, call themselves golfers, and have a 25+ handicap. How is that even possible?

I called it, no credit tho lol. Maybe just a lucky prophecy ?

Wow I step away for a week and see gatormd gets banned...LOL! Who else? Frankly I was expecting (hoping) a few others would get the boot for trolling and spamming but somehow the mods allowed them to stay around even though they've been flagged and reported.

RIP Gator. His posts were always a bright spot to read. Never negative unless of course you were an anti tiger troll. Lol.

Yeah I think gator was positive and entertaining. Over the top at times but generally fun banter... RIP.

Ultimately he couldn’t control his own Tiger Boner from last week. Tiger winning was too much for him to handle.

Awww shame I liked Gator but I think he allowed himself to let drawn in by the likes of Coolrunnings and other posters. I wanted to tell him to log off and stay away as he was running on adrenaline after Tigers win.

Real simple: Golf is hard, and it takes practice/lessons to improve. Playing 15x a year (especially with 6 months off during winter), you are NEVER going to get any better than you were than you were after year two. Only people who do improve are naturally gifted athletes with excellent eye/hand coordination...and there just aren't that many of those.

That's just sad. I guess that makes it just like bowling for a lot of people. Except bowling is cheap. My thoughts are if you're gonna suck at something, suck for as little as possible.

I was going to post fun facts about The Masters during The Masters, but then I got suspended for promoting facts, since it’s over here goes. This is all stuff I have learned through visits and talking with members although it’s nothing that can’t be read or found with some research

Green Jackets are technically property of the club, they’re made by a single tailor in Cincinnati if I remember correctly. They are not to ever leave the champions locker after the first year, however they’re have been several instances of players removing them and keeping them at their residence. Most notably; Henry Picard (although to be fair he took his home before the rule was put in place) I believe that it is kept at Canterbury GC outside of Cleveland. Seve Ballesteros took his home after his last trip to Augusta. Gary Player took his home infamously telling Clifford Roberts that he could travel to South Africa to get it back if he wanted it.

The champion doesn’t always receive a new jacket...if he has won before then he receives his previous jacket. Only new champions are to receive a new jacket and players in contention are estimated as to their sizes so that they have a size that is close at the ceremony.

Although not a rule players in contention do try to wear green friendly clothing, not withstanding Tom Watson’s orange pants and striped shirt.

There’s a natural spring between 13-14 that sprouts gold flakes during periods of rain.

Speaking of 13-14s greens speeds at Augusta aren’t that fast (target is whatever is permissible for the week but average 12). Target speeds actually vary from green to green... seriously. Each green during tournament week has its own crew that works that particular hole for the entire week (or at least used too) ensuring that their hole has the best playing conditions possible for the week. Simply put some greens can’t be as “fast” as others due to slopes etc. 12 for example cannot be faster than 12.5 otherwise it would be unplayable.

Clifford Roberts killed himself via gunshot wound on the bank of Ike’s Pond. He had stepped down as chairman and had suffered a stroke and was already in failing health. His life is memorialized with a bronze plaque on the grounds.

WTF? That’s bizarre, but not looking for you to elaborate and be perceived as poking any bears!

Thanks for the info, a couple nuggets in there I’d not read before.

Well it probably had more to do with the fact that I called someone “f word nuts” because they’re a liar (I just drop kicked my ball) and insisted that Virginia Rommety (never sure on spelling) was the first female member of ANGC simply because of her elevation to CEO of IBM. He is correct in his statement that traditionally the IBM CEO has been extended and invitation of membership, and she was EXCEPT for the FACT that it was after Condoleeza Rice and Darla Moore were admitted. Now I can’t record the members conversations but the article that I posted corroborates exactly what I had and have been told from members that I know and talk to on a regular basis.

https://www.golf.com/instruction/2019/04/26/tiger-woods-golftv-swing-feeling-masters

‘I’ve found something’: Tiger Woods talks about Masters-winning swing

“I found a swing where I can start drawing the ball.”

“Because I don’t have the length I used to have, I can’t hit 3-wood off some of these tees. You saw…down 10 I actually hit driver. I never used to hit driver. But I lost a little bit off my fastball so I have to rely on my driver. And I’ve found something in my game where I feel comfortable turning it. I felt comfortable turning the long irons, 3 wood, 5 wood, driver; but I maintain the ability to hit the slider”
