Wedge Lengths

Wondering how many guys here just play normal progression through the wedges where they step down 1/4" from the 9 iron (i.e. 36" 9 iron, 35.75" PW, 35.5" GW, 35.25" SW, 35" LW) or if you guys plays all your wedges the same length, or do something different. I now all the same length is used by some guys on tour and is more of an old school thing but anyone still do this?

1/4" progression here.

Perhaps you already saw this, but Aaron Dill commented on Instagram today that less than 5 guys on tour play same length wedges (I presume he's only speaking of Vokey players with whom he works). So it's not very common out there.

My wedges.......PW 36 1/2" , shaft weight 80 grams , swingweight D-4 . Then 1/8" length

progression , Gap to 54° to 58° . Also 15 gram shaft weight and 1 swingweight between

each. GW 36 3/8" , 95 gram shaft , swingweight D-5 / 54° Sand , 36 1/4" , 110 gram

shaft , swingweight D-6 / 58° LW , 36 1/8" , 125 gram shaft , swingweight D-7 .

Lengths listed are with grips and measured " play length " . I have lots of tape under

my standard sized grips , to make them mid- size, reduced taper , and firm feeling.

Helps with feel , when playing gripped down , finesse , and tweener shots.....

I used to play +1" over, using a standard progression of .25" between wedges and .50" thereafter. Now I do:

LW: 36

SW 36.25

AW: 36.50

PW: 36.50

9i: 36.75

8i 37.25

Having the AW and PW the same length, and only going up .25" between PW and 9i allows me to get some extra length where needed on the shortest clubs, but save .50" to .75" over a traditional length progression which pays dividends on the 6i, 5i and 4i where the extra length is not needed and can lead to greater inconsistency from the irons being longer than needed. Since I rarely if ever take full swings with anything less than 9i, and frequently choke down for distance control. gapping isn't a concern like with full swing irons (2-9).

I used to progress mine but have gone 1/4” between Pw and 50 and then the 50,54,58 all the same. It’s been a good change for me. Posture is easier..being 45 now...and I like the consistency

I hate crouching as its terrible posture and think it deters from me hitting the ball clean . I play 38.5 5 iron then my PW is .25 shorter than my 9 and the rest of the wedges are the same length as my PW. It works for me for posture reasons.

All Clubs subject to change relative to my last bad round of golf......

What you get stock from the OEMs can vary.

Most OEMs, such as Vokey and Cleveland, have quarter-inch gaps in shaft length between types of wedges.

Mizuno and Tour Edge are different: Both make their specialty wedges (G, S and L) all the same length - 35.25".
