Dicks / Taylormade Promo

chncprc

Recommended Posts

There are over 800 Dicks Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy stores in the US. Lets just say each store has 50(conservative #) forms that are filled out. Now lets say Rory wins???

Do you guys really think Taylormade is going to send out 40,000 $500 m5\m6 drivers????

If you purchase a driver and Rory wins you will be reimbursed. If you dont purchase a driver and Rory wins your name will be entered into a contest to win 1 of a few no purchase necessary prizes!

Taylormade would fold like a cheap suit if they had to ship out 40,000 $500 drivers!

Here's their full terms and conditions: note that non-purchase entries need to be post-marked by May 30.

And they would be slapped with a class-action lawsuit that they would lose, plus take a massive PR hit. Again, read the fine print and brush up on your U.S. sweepstakes laws.

It's a marketing stunt, plain and simple, and surely is backed with an insurance policy just in case Rory wins. Now, will they have send out 40,000 drivers? Naw. Not all the forms will be claimed to begin with and surely hundreds will be either mailed in late or botched somehow -- some would also abuse the one-per-name/address rule and perhaps be disqualified. I bet TM would be on the hook for about 10,000 drivers -- which at $500 per is only $5 million, a drop in the bucket for them (and again, covered by insurance). Plus they'd get a ton of good PR, and make a few new TaylorMade fans for life. And right now they're probably enjoying a little sales bump, moving some drivers to people who might have been on the fence about buying but are pulling the trigger with the small hope that they'll be free in a few weeks. It's a win-win-win for all parties.

There is a 100% chance that this promo, like many others of this sort, is covered by a third party insurance policy. TM/DICKS/WHOEVER paid a fixed premium to run this promo, and the insurance company is making a bet on the field against Rory. Taylormade will not "fold like a cheap suit" if Rory wins.

Reading comprehension is not a real strong suit by at least 1 person in this thread.

Wow!!! Some of the responses are interesting.just read the fine print. Lastly, retail value up the $599. That stated, that’s not TM’s cost to make the product.

Why not? They would be paid by the insurance company, it would be a big boost for them.

I doubt very much if anyone that doesn't already own one will understand the rules fully anyway. Most "normal" people that I talk to, who aren't members here, believe you need to purchase a driver first to gain entry or get ANYTHING out of this. It's not until you dig deeper into the online Terms and Conditions that you realize it's all legit, *No Purchase Necessary*.

I kind of thought the same thing ar first, but after doing some research the only way anyone will win a driver is by purchasing it and then sending in the voucher. Sure it is no purchase necessary...but if u want to be reimbursed for an m5 or m6 you have to pre-purchase the driver. The people sending in # vouchers will be eligible for prizes probably including a few drivers, but TM will not be sending drivers to everone who sent in a voucher on time.

And Rory still has to win lol...which he just might!

Precisely, odds right now are 12/1. Insurance is essentially a hedge of bets so this legal corporate gambling. TM and DSG likely are both paying for the policy, if Rory wins TM gets paid around the wholesale cost, DSG likely gets some portion of their normal profit, insurance company weeps but their bets are hedged against all of the policies they are paid on. If Rory doesnt win, TM/DSG still benefit as some folks may have planned to buy the driver anyway and this was a smart way to push them over the threshold, those who don't purchase still need to go to the store to get the form and may do some shopping.

People wonder why costco sells hotdogs and chickens at a loss, but it's not a real loss with all of the pull through revenue they generate.

You are failing to understand that these types of contests are governed by federal law and TM absolutely will have to abide by the conditions, and that is by redeeming properly filled out and mailed on time no-purchase-necessary vouchers for drivers in the event of a Rory win, in addition to refunding customers who bought drivers in the designated time period. You are either not reading the entire terms and conditions or just preferring to ignore them.

You really have to admire when somebody is as incorrect as ILG is in this thread and then they double down on how incorrect they are.

TM finally figured it out, in a good way I hope. Cally has been doing this kind of promo many times in the past, mainly the Masters.

F/F of mine all went in for the promo back in 2006( i think). It was the nice gents at the late Golf Smith store told me about it while I was browsing.

Yes, Phil won, and we all got the drivers we wanted. And for a while Ebay was flooded with FT series drivers for sale lol

There were actually few models to choose from in the Ft series.

Yes, I mailed mine out this time aswell. No need to over think. GOOOOO Rory lol

What research led you to that conclusion? Where do you get this "the people sending in # vouchers will be eligible for prizes probably including a few drivers, but TM will not be sending drivers to everone who sent in a voucher on time."

Seriously, where are you getting that? Did you read all the rules? By saying "probably" I am going to guess you did not.

I did read the rules and this is a quote directly from them: "If you did not make a Qualifying Purchase, the driver you requested when you submitted your claim will be shipped to you approximately sixty (60) days after your Refund Promotion form has been received and verified."

Sure it is no purchase necessary...but if u want to be reimbursed for an m5 or m6 you have to pre-purchase the driver. The people sending in # vouchers will be eligible for prizes probably including a few drivers, but TM will not be sending drivers to everone who sent in a voucher on time.

Nothing to interpret. Rory wins, send in form by deadline, get new driver. But I bet it does take the full 60 days, and people in here will start carping after 10 days. Check out the thread from when TM was sending free TP5/TP5x a few months back. "Free" doesn't always mean "fast." But the balls did arrive.
