course handicap impact on handicap question

Recommended Posts

I'm a 10.4 right now. If I play tees that are (72.4) 133 and tees that are (70) 126 they give me the same course handicap of 12. Does that mean if I shoot 82 they will impact my handicap the same? Or if they don't what would would the theoretical stroke difference be from the 2 different tees. 2.4 strokes?

Score - Course rating

Then times that by 113 divided by the Course Rating

**Course 1**

82 - 72.4 = 9.6

113/133 = .849624

9.6 * .849624 = 8.1563904

ie. 8.2 differential for the first course

**Course 2**

82 - 72 = 10

113/126 = .896825

10 * .896825 = 8.96825

ie. 9.0 differential

Your Course Handicap is the same because it is round to a whole number.

**Course 1** - 133/113 = 1.17699 then times by your index of 10.4 = 12.24 which is rounded to 12

**Course 2** - 126/113 = 1.11504 then times by your index of 10.4 = 11.59 which is also rounded to 12

113 is what they use as an 'average' course rating (even though it is more like 120 supposedly). They always use 113 for the calculations.

Thank you. But how did u get the 10.8?

The calculation hats4bats did, but he used the wrong course rating. It should be (82-70)*(113/126)

The only thing left out is ESC (Equitable Stroke Control) . As a 10 it probably doesn't apply here but you never know.

THIS year (it changes NEXT year) as a 10, if you had more than a 7 on any hole you must take off the "excess" stroke(s) before calculating your index for that round.

IIRC NEXT year it will be any strokes over NET double bogey on a given hole (and ain't the US players gonna love that one LOL).

Also there is no need to do the average slope divided by the course slope calculation separately and then multiply.

You can just keep going on the calculator as krt shows,,,,,,, (82-70)*113/126

Strange example being that if he can only take a 6 he'd be a single digit capper,,,,,,, but in any case I appreciate those guys. Who knows how long it'd take him to get out of that bunker,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, [grin]

Very interesting, I did not know about the change to ESC. The high index stroke queens are going to be pissed indeed. Seems strange to raise the total index to 54 when the most you can post on any given hole is a double.

I'm sure it's been discussed here. What I'm not sure is if it's written in stone yet for Jan 1, 2020. Also, everybody's handicap will be going down a little as the new formula will be best 8 of your last 20.

And note "net" double bogey max. This means that people are actually going to have to pay attention to their strokes holes, even if they're playing medal and adjust scores accordingly for handicap purposes - good luck with that.

I think somebody suggested that the rest of the world play an awful lot of Stableford. As opposed to the USA of course - Personally I've never played Stableford here in the USA

Those Stableford players easily know when they make net double.
