I need a new go-to golf shirt

Recommended Posts

So I recently purged my closet of all the stuff I don't wear anymore and my golf shirt selection is now sorely lacking. I used to be a Nike guy but don't love their new stuff and am ready to move on. I have a bunch of cotton Criquet and B. Draddy shirts that I wear to work, and love the fit of the B Draddy in small. I'm 5'11" and about 170 pounds, regular build. I'd prefer something with the weight and feel of B. Draddy cotton but with a little more "tech" so they're still usable in the summer. I don't love the super lightweight / super techy fabrics that feel like tissue paper though. I also don't love the super boxy fit of FJ / Peter Millar and would prefer something a little slimmer. I noticed Criquet came out with a "Performance" version of their polo that's cotton / poly / spandex so I might give that a shot first. What say you, masters of golf equipment and fashion?

Interesting shout, I'll see if I can check them out next time I'm near one of their stores. I wish they had more striped options though.

My wife prefers Athleta, but yeah I never mind going in those stores with her to "help pick stuff out." I don't go by a Lulu often but last time I passed one in the mall I noticed they had a decent sized men's section.

Would you say the PM tour fit is similar to the FJ athletic fit in sizing? The FJ and PM are both way too boxy but the athletic fit is about perfect for me.

Really high quality stuff. They have everything from athletic apparel to business casual. One of the only brands that at 6’4”, 200lbs I can consistently find clothing that fits me the way I want it to.

Check out the Linksoul Anza Drytech. Easily my favorite golf polo I've ever worn, tons of colors available, a comfortable smooth fabric that looks like a high quality cotton but wears and breathes with the "best" of my tech fabrics. Definitely wearable on and off the course, and I don't feel that way about most performance fabric polos.

I've never worn the FJ athletic fit. I would say the PM Tour Fit is more like RLX or Greyson. Much more fitted. I usually buy Medium in normal PM shirts as the larges are way too big. In the PM tour, I buy large and it fits much better.

Just curious, why do you think B Draddy is high maintenance? I wash them on normal cycle cold and then dry them on permanent press. If I take them out of the dryer right away I don't even need to iron them, just hang them up and they're ready to wear.

They don't look as crisp out of the dryer as other shirts such as Dunhill, Lindberg, PM, Greyson, Travis Mathew, or Holderness & Bourne. They are better than Criquet and some Polo though.

J. Lindeberg, even in their regular fit, is slim fitting and is a brand I love. Galvin Green Ventil8 has a cotton feel to it but is then and has tech in it. Ted Baker has some nice shirts as well. Another one to check out is Original Penguin.

They're 100% cotton, so anything over 70 degrees gets sweaty if you're walking. I ordered a couple of Original Penguin that were on sale on TrendyGolf as well as a LinkSoul DryTech shirt. My buddy has a hookup at Criquet, so I'm having him get me a couple of their Performance polos. I'll report back when I get everything in and test them out. Thanks guys!

I got the two Original Penguin shirts and LinkSoul Drytech shirt I ordered from TrendyGolf. The OP shirts are pretty nice and fit me well in medium. The LinkSoul was boxy and I had a lot of extra fabric around the midsection that looked goofy when I tucked it in and the pulled it back out a little bit. I sent it back. I think I might need to try a small in LinkSoul, the fabric did feel nice.

I'll toss in for Lululemon and the PM Tour Fit. Adding a vote for the Bonobos Slim Fits, though they did recently add the branding on the sleeve. Still better than TM though. You're taller than me, but I also wear a small B Draddy and I like the PM Tour Fit in size small. I have to size up to medium for Bonobos and Lulu.

Lululemon is making the best golf shirts in the world right now. It's not even close for me. They fit perfect, look great on or off the course, and they wear better than any other brand I've ever owned. They look the same after 2 seasons of wear and washing! I can't say enough about them and I've owned most of the top brands out there. Get every colour in the tech pique polo and you won't look for another shirt again

I'm definitely interested in the new Metal Vent Tech and Evolution polos, but it doesn't look like the store near me has them (yet?). I like shirts with some heathering or stripes so it doesn't show every little stain or grease mark. How is the sizing in your experience? Like I said I go between a small and medium depending on the cut and brand.

Edit: It's interesting reading the reviews on Lulu's site of these shirts and every other one is complaining about how the quality of these shirts has gone way down hill recently or compared to the previous version... less features, inconsistent sizing / fit, material pilling after one wash, etc.

The metal vent and tech pique are the only ones I can speak to, but those materials have been more resilient than any other golf shirt I've ever owned. Zero pilling or changes in the material whatsoever. The fit is not inconsistent at all, they've just gone slightly slimmer with the trends as has every other major brand. So yes, if someone is looking for a polyester boxy traditional golf shirt then these are not for them. I am always between a Large and XL in Nike, an XL in G/fore and JL and the Lulu shirts are perfect in XL. Take it for what it's worth, one guy's opinion but I really care how I dress on the course and I will not look for another shirt again.

PS: they have a "made too much" link for sale items, and always free shipping.
