Is Vegas Betting a fun way to play?

We are always playing in an overall competition so the group bet is a sideline for beers and bragging.

What works well for us is, 2nd ball counts matchplay, that is, if two people make net pars, their respective partners are in the game if one makes a net par and the other a net bogey, its 1up to the par guys.

We brought it in because 4balls advantage higher markers

We play it this way. If you go lone wolf before you hit, it's 4x, if you go lone wolf after you hit it's 3x and if you go after everybody hits it's 2x. Very few go the 4x route, but I recall one player did it and birdied the hole to win 4x with carryovers it totaled 28 points.

We play wolf when we have a 5some. Flip a tee for order, You pick a partner or can go wolf any time it's your box. If you go wolf, you pay double or get paid double. If we have 3 or 4somes, or a weaker player, we play where there's always a single wolf. That way it's always 2 or 3 vs the wolf. If you're the wolf and lose, you pay single, if you win you get double. If you make a birdie on the team, you get an extra dot . Also, all greenies are individual.

I've come to enjoy a game with simplicity. I've noticed that most guys don't like to: Talk about the game and the rules the whole round as it's a distraction nor do they like: Feeling like they're "learning the rules" as they're losing money i.e. a craps dealer "I'll teach you the game just bring some money to the table."

 

We played a version of Captain/Wolf this week and a couple of the guys just got fed up with the Pace of Play because the scorekeeper had to tally the dots before we could determine the order on the last few holes.

 

We keep going back to a simple best ball Nassau although I'd like to add this Vegas Birdie Flip game into the mix. I think I mentioned earlier we don't like "giving strokes" but I'm thinking it might be just as easy to determine a net game on the putting green and get it over with so at least it's fair to the higher cap guys.
