2019 Drivers

I've watched way too many videos on the new Cobra, Callaway and TM driver offerings for 2019 than I care to admit. One thing I am consistently seeing is that a lot of the distance gains are actually coming from reduced spin numbers from prior generations. Is this going to be any good for those kids that have sub 100 mph swing speeds that might need the additional spin to keep the ball in the air?

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

less spin is not always good especially for juniors. I agree that most need spin to help them get the ball in the air more. It be nice is some of these OEM made tiger lofts than just 12. Create a driver that has 14 problem is with that is most Men would never touch it and the amount of junior sells wouldn't justify them producing a driver like that. I know some juniors at age 8 that use a 10.5 when clearly the need a lot more loft.

I just pre-ordered the Cobra F9 junior driver for my daughter so I'll let you know in a month or so.

Cant wait to see how it works. My son is happy with his US kids tour 54. But I will probably buy one soon. Just need to figure out how to not let the wife find out. 500 for a set of wedges sent her to the edge. Honestly wouldn't take but a dozen balls and a pack of tees to topple her on over ?.

My son received an M2 last year as a birthday gift. I've convinced him he won't ever need another driver until he can afford to buy his own. Beauty of shaft adaptors..

But to address your question, at least at my son's age he doesn't hit the ball hard enough or far enough where I think spin is mattering much yet. The higher he can launch it with the little spin he can put on it the further it seems to fly. The rollout is where things can change drastically. We can get anywhere from 10-40yards of roll out depending on how high we set the loft, which can make more of a difference on the overall driver shot. Lower loft makes for more rollout, but less air time. Just depends what we want for the course we're playing.

Anyone got there cobra f9 jr driver yet

I got the driver for my daughter and received it last week. Its hard for me to give much feedback yet because I went with a longer shaft and it is throwing my daughter off a little. She had the 39' shaft in her old Cobra junior driver and her coach told me it was time for her to move up so I got the 41' shaft this time. She did tell me that the head was bigger on the new driver ( I need to verify this) and that there was different feel coming off the head. I have the SC200 and my plan is to get some numbers this week with the new driver. The thing looks like a bumble bee with all the yellow on the bottom of the head. I can see some people being turned off by the color but you don't have any other option with the F9 junior driver.

I broke down and ordered the cobra f9 today. Along with some puma shoes.

He's a huge Fowler fan. And my wife and myself are Spieth fans. So he has mostly under armour golf clothes. (There is a UA outlet very near our house also). I told him when he won a tournament shooting par are under we would buy him puma gear. I'll let him look at the shoes as motivation.?

Ordered M5 as well. Will have my boy test against 2017 M2 and let you know in a couple of weeks. 2019 seems to be a big year for new drivers. Initial reviews of the M5 are that they launch higher and have higher ball speeds. Excited to play with the settings.

He has a ladies blue tensei in his 2017 M2. So will stick with that shaft. Ordered with stock orange tensei as that is a very good “made for” shaft that I’ll keep for later years.

At this point, I feel like I am just stocking shafts... already have TM shafts from my drivers and now find myself thinking of what he needs when ordering drivers for me as well. Hopefully, TM doesn’t change adapters over the next four years.

Just wanted to check if anyone had initial thoughts from people who purchased the 2019 drivers already.

Tried them all... Depends on what your junior golfer needs.

Need more roll out - TM M6

Need more carry - Titleist TS3

Need to find more fairways - PXG

Best blend - Ping 410

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

TM5 with Atmos Black Stiff shaft. Had the best numbers over M6, Callaway, Titleist and Ping for my kid.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Got my daughter the Cobra F9 with the 41" shaft. She had previously been using the 39" shaft in her old Cobra driver. We ended up taking out the 41" shaft because it was just a tad long for her. I got a Recoil shaft from Darter and put that in there and she loves it. Being a women's flex, it is a little stiffer and that seems to help bring her ball flight down. She is definitely getting a little more run out but I'm not sure there is a huge distance gain. Like someone said above, I think you need to be swinging the club a certain speed before you are really going to see a ton of difference.

Can't really tell if 2019 M5 has gained distance over his 2017 M2, because it is still freezing here. He seemed to gain distance on pga superstore launch monitors (would like to get him on trackman once his swing is more dialed in) but that can also be because he's stronger and taller than he was since the summer. Also we moved to a senior shaft .5" longer than his previous ladies shaft. He does like the sound, however (much more muted). I went with the M5 because he never gets real roll on his drives. Here is a good guide on preferred launch angle and spin rates:

https://golfweek.com...n-driver-speed/

On swing radar, he's consistently 76-78 mph (he gets 86-87 mph on superspeed UL sticks), so trying to dial in the 80 mph suggestion.

For my 14-year-old, made the switch two weeks ago from the 2017 M2 to a Callaway epic flash subzero. Picked up much more ball speed and was carrying it 10 to 15 yards farther. Keep in mind, we did not get fit for the M2 so that probably explains some of the difference. Also went from a regular to stiff shaft in the Callaway (100 - 103 swing speed).

My daughter has the F9 junior driver and loves it. She previously had the F7 junior driver. The biggest difference for her is the feel. She likes the feel of the head on the F9 compared to the F7. I can’t tell there is a huge jump in distance because her swing speed isn’t very high 65-68mph range. I spoke with a dad the other day who saw some significant increase in distance when his daughter switched to the F9 but she had a much higher swing speed. I like the fact that Cobra is really trying to cater to the junior market with their clubs and clothes.

Thanks for the response. Do you think she saw any jump? An additional 10 yards is an additional 10 yards for example.

My curiosity on the F9 Junior driver comes from seeing a kid we played with last weekend hit one. I started poking around on eBay and of course now seeing some stellar deals on the prior F8 Junior in used but excellent condition.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

Son got fitted for a new shaft over the weekend that got him an extra 10 yards of carry but at $350 - $450 just for the shaft it's not worth it. Fujikura Speeder EVO for anyone wondering.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

She saw some gains in distance maybe 10 yards. I'm of the opinion that you really start seeing variations in results the higher the clubhead speed gets. When you are swinging the club under 70 mph there can't be a huge jump from one club to another IMO. What may happen is if you get the right shaft in the clubhead, it could lower the ball flight and lead to more roll.
