Oncore Avant - Wow. Never heard of them before though?

Was given a sleeve of these last week and after 3 rounds (still have 1 left) all I can say is wow! Its at least as long as the B330 / BXS, and feels better off the wedges than either.

I haven't seen too much about them but they sure play nice.

Has anyone else even heard of these, let alone played them?

I have no idea about the construction. There site is very lite on tech. Copy pasta:

Avant 55

Want a “soft” ball that gives you maximum distance? Go further and beyond with the Avant 55. The low compression of the Avant creates the feel that players want off the club face and around the greens without sacrificing distance. To bring it all, we merged our SoftCell technology with proprietary core chemistry, resulting in feel, spin, and distance that delivers great performance for golfers of every skill level.

That was the Caliber which I don't think they make anymore. The Avant 55 are just your run of the mill 2 piece surlyn balls that almost everyone has. Got a sleeve of them and they were ok.

Yes, there is a seam, but I had to really look to find it. If you wouldn't have mentioned it, I wouldn't have notice. Found a seam in a few other balls that I didn't know was there. Not sure if that would affect performance?

Anyone else play the Avant 55? Like to get a more of a golfwrx rundown to see what others have already found out. Ordered a dozen to see how they would play against my Titleist TruFeel. May not get out soon because of SD restrictions and I’m going thru some allergies turned asthma issues.

Received two sleeves of these in a package my son sent me.  I was amazed at how long I was able to play with one ball before finally losing it.  It lasted me several rounds, which most balls rarely do.  No idea if it was the ball or just the way I was swinging at the time.  Anyway, decided to try some other Oncore balls, and their website 'fitted' me for the Elixir.  Bought a couple boxes of them, but wish I'd have bought the cheaper Avant 55 instead.  I like the feel of it better.  I'm 60 and relatively athletic, but perhaps the softer compression is what I need.  Will likely go back to the Avant once I've lost my stash of Elixirs.  I like the feel of it better than the Srixon Soft Feel as well.

Jordan, Good to know as I love the Soft Feel. Was the Avant a white ball, matte or with traditional color? In my experience, the Soft Feel brites feel terrible compared to the  SF yellows. Any two piece ball in the 50-60 compression is what I l prefer. I like the TM BurnerSoft as well.

Tanner, the Avant comes in traditional white and I believe yellow as well.  I think purchasing from the Oncore website is the cheapest way to go, but you can find them elsewhere.  I still have a few balls to lose before I need to replenish my stash, but playing a course with a lot of water tomorrow should help.

Sounds good Jordan. Yes, they have yellow and a matte green too.

No idea, maybe did it to get some attention before bringing out better product to market. I heard their Elixr ball is quite nice for the price.

I think they made 2 generations of the "Caliber" golf ball before they discontinued it. I believe it was their first ball brought to market. Was supposed to be very straight due to the hollow steel center. Speaking from personal experience (from a few years ago) I do recall them being straighter & harder to fade/slice. The down side was 1-they seemed very loud off driver which I could have gotten used to but 2-they seemed very short compared to any other golf balls. Usually 20-30 yards short. May have been the reason it was discontinued. I do remember talking to someone from the company last year either via phone or email & they said they were working on an updated version of the Caliber but I'm beginning to think that may not happen.

They did release a new ball last summer called the VeroX1. I just played it for the first time last Sunday. They are $40 a dozen & while it's a good ball I saw no reason to purchase more. At $30 a dozen I would consider it. If they run some sort of special I might buy more...My go to ball is the Maxfli tour. Hard to beat at 2 dozen for $50.
