Double Overlap grip - anyone use for ALL shots throughout the bag?

Waiting for the courses to open up here in Wisconsin in the spring, I usually use the first few weeks of March to dust off the clubs and get re-ingrained for the season. This is typically where I like to tinker with various things involving grip, setup, etc. I also like to try and dial in my carry distances with my clubs as the range I go to has Toptracer.

 

Yesterday at the range, I was striking the ball quite...well, below average. Not horrible, but not good. I normally play with a fade, but my balls were entering "slice" territory instead of fade, any my distances were a few yards off from where they usually are.

 

I have from time to time had an issue with flipping, and perhaps this was creeping into my swing. But anyway, as I was tinkering with some grip adjustments, I decided to try a double overlap (Furyk-type) grip. I use the double overlap for putting, so its not completely foreign to me. I used this grip the rest of the day for all my shots through the bag, from top to bottom. My results were highly positive - a gain back to where my yardages should be, crisp contact, and a much straighter ballflight - still a tendency to fade a bit, but back to baby fade territory and not 12-yard slice territory. I was also surprised at the fact that it wasn't at all uncomfortable for me.

 

For those who know more about the mechanics of the swing more than me - what did I stumble upon here? Im assuming that gripping the club this way takes the left hand (Im a lefty) out of the swing a fair bit, thus making flipping/casting much harder. I also noticed my tempo was much better - I sometimes am quick from the top and this grip forced me to actually slow down my transition. Do any of you use the double overlap for all shots? If so, what kind of results did you have? Im glad I discovered this now as we enter the season, as I would like to stick with this for the full season and see how it affects my golf game.

I tried it and it feels awkward. Like anything in golf. Stick with it and it will improve.

But I have tried it for odd wedge shots inside 80 yards and feels comfortable for that

For the full swing I prefer other style grips

Was probably just WFAD (works for a day). But you might try taking your normal grip but with your hands closer together (bottom hand a little higher up on your top hand) as well as other thoughts to smooth out your transition and combat flipping if those are known issues.
