PXG 0211 irons - what do you think?

These look like an intriguing offering and just wondering what they would compare to? I've played the CF16's and Ping i500's during the last year and wondering if these would be an improvement over those clubs. I could afford the more expensive PXG's but not sure my game deserves to spend that much money. I think I might give them a call tomorrow and talk to one of their fitting specialists.

You still can’t buy a game, I don’t think... I wonder if they out perform the maltby version

The honest answer is probably economies of scale... it costs a ton to build the mold, hence why smaller brands don’t make left handed clubs...

Pxg also has incentives to be higher in price just to keep their reputation

IMO it shows the initial business model was flawed to begin with.. the premium PXGs perform no better than any other brands premium model .. as people get wise to that sales drop off and a new revenue stream has to be found... having said that they are a pretty looking stick .. they should make it in black to keep that premium edge though

If the new 0211 irons have the same feel as the 0311 irons they are an excellent buy!

No iron matches the fantastic feel of the PXG iron...none.... PERIOD!

I had some 0311Ts about a year ago. I had to see what it was all about. I learned quickly that it doesn't matter how much you spend, they're just clubs and all do pretty much the same thing. I'm not a fan of the look of the 0211, that said, I wouldn't begrudge anyone for wanting to scratch that itch with these.

Or, they realized they are missing maybe the largest market segment. Fact is, there is a ton of $ to be made, and flawed business model or not, PXG has done just fine.

So they add another product to their line and that proves to you their business model was flawed? Was it just adding these irons that proved how flawed the business model was or was it also when they added woods, hybrids, putters and driving irons? I guess Apple’s business model was flawed too based on that logic. Many of the pundits here also claimed they would be out of business a couple of years ago. I have not reviewed their financials but all indications are that they are doing quite well.

Play what you like, play what you want and play what you can afford. Its amazing how passionate and sometimes defensive we get over our game and favorite brands. Sometimes I think we could all do a better job of keeping it in perspective. Personally I don't think the biz model is broken at all. PXG has been quite successful and is simply now trying to gain market share and reach a broader audience. It started with the intro of their second gen driver which is pretty comparable to other premium offerings with upgraded shafts. It performs pretty well too!

This is such a ridiculous statement. They make nice clubs 100% but they feel no nicer than other premium forgings. Not much competition in the arena of larger GI forged irons so you probably just haven't found the sweet spot on a smaller one. Give your head a shake. You drank Bob's hot creamy load of "kool-aid".

The copper master cost $3-4K per head, total for the tooling that the manufacture would have to play is under $30k typically for the set. It’s more to keep their price point.

I’ve not seen one test where pxg has outperformed any of the top brands. Besides “brand value” I have no idea why anyone would pay that much for their clubs. This new set does look a lot better design wise.

There is a guy at our club that wears these pink and yellow super tight clothing line from Europe that is very expensive I think like $200-400 clothing. He also has a full bag of pxg, he’s till a 18 handicap. Great dude though and we all support whatever he wants to play, it just doesn’t make him better. Nor the fact that he is 60 years old with a pot belly wearing a medium pink shirt when he is 250 lbs.

We have 4 guys just like that at our club. One plays Callaway, one Titleist, one Taylormade and the last guys plays some old generic set. They are all great “Dudes” though.

Well “balls deep” classy BTW there is a difference in feel. The 0311 feel better than the Callaway Apex 2019/CF16 or the 919 Forged. Ive owned all and sold the Apex and 919. Im no hack Ive played for 30 years and have maintained a low handicap for many years. Maybe its the COR2 goo in it but they feel soft amd perform. My guess 0211 will perform similar maybe little harder feel.

We need pics of that. I'm not calling you out, I genuinely want to see a 250 lbs pink panther for my own amusement.

Well as a lefty Ill give Bob credit all his stuff is available in LH prob not the new blades and thats fine. Listen the clubs would have to perform on some level for them to justify price. I dont know how Ping or Titleist charges $1200 for cast clubs most players unless a low handicap would notice a difference in feel from 0211 to 0311. And yeah many will buy for the “premium” factor. Happens all the time. My in laws are like that he buys new Tahoes every year or so and she buys anything Apple makes. I think she must be related to Tim Cook. She like my wife you can take into any store and they will always, not knowing, pick out the most expensive item.

I have 2 sets of 0311s but bought through Heroes. The Gen1 at $125 an iron was best deal in golf. Wish was still available.

As someone that has been adding PXG clubs to the bag over the last year or so, I can say that I am a bit surprised at the shift in business model. Most likely ego as BP clearly wants to be a bigger player in the market now. I don't think that was the stated goal initially. The new offering does look pretty sharp. As far as my PXGs, I can say that the 3 wood and hybrids are amazing, both in terms of feel and performance (they replaced Titleist 917F2 and H1). The 0311Ts look and perform great, and feel sweet too. However, they have not lowered my scores and IMO do not feel any better than the Apex Pro 16s, 716 CBs or MP18 SCs I owned previously. Different but not better. I do not regret the purchase at all. They are fun to play and the novelty of them generates a lot of conversation amongst other players I meet which is always fun.

Driver (10):  Titleist TSR3 (Tour AD DI 6s)
3 Wood (16.5):  Titleist TSR2 (Tour AD DI 7s)
Hybrid (19):  Titleist TSi2 (Tour AD DI 85s)
Hybrid (22):  Titleist TSi2 (Tour AD DI 85s)
Irons (5-G):  Titleist T100S (TT Elevate Tour)
Wedges:  54/58:  Vokey SM9 (PX LZ 6.0 -- Onyx)
Putter:  Toulon Las Vegas 2022
