Fitting or lesson.

What would be the better selection to improve my putting a putting lesson or a putter fitting? I go back and forth with different styles, mallet, Newport. My putting is inconsistent no matter which one I use. Club Champion does fittings for $100, and a lesson would probably be the same.

I actually got both at Club Champion. They bent my current putter after I used the SAM putting lab. They showed me how I was hitting all my putts off the heel, (Oddly enough I made like 25 in a row). Then the fitter gave me a ball position change to go with my newly bent putter. I could have purchased a putter through them, but had already spent $2,000 on clubs including irons I don't even play now.

If you like your putter and it's comfortable, go with a lesson. If you hate looking at your putter or it's uncomfortable, go with a new putter.

I'd say both, first the fitting to see what works best for you then lessons to improve on what works best for you. Also if you go to a good fitter you'll learn quite a bit as well about your stroke.

Off topic a bit, but why don't you play the clubs you got "fit" for? Bad fitting/dissatisfied or WRX disease ( ho)?

Fair question...I brought some Epon 502 heads in and they built the set for me. I just never liked the feel. So partly that, and WRX disease. I really need to give them a fair go.

It's expensive and only available in Encinitas, but I did a fitting at the Cameron Gallery last March. It was a fitting and a lesson. The fitter and I established in the first three minutes that I love my current putter and don't want to get a new one, so the "fitting" was geared toward tweaking my putter, talking about the stroke, looking at setup, ball position, weight distribution in your feet, etc... It was break through. I've changed my putting stance/setup a little since the fitting, but through the experience I know what to check for and have a better understanding of how the player, the stroke, and the putter itself work together to get the ball rolling the best.

If wanting to be fitted thoroughly I would seriously consider a trip to the Indianapolis area and seek Bruce Rearick. He uses the SAM puttlab system and really knows putting. He has a wealth of knowledge and can probably help with putter stroke flaws and advise what style of head best fits the stroke.
