Rick Shiels YGT tournament

Some of the videos have started to come out, and so far it seems like the tournament was a big success. A lot of the golf youtubers came out to play, although noticeably absent were Crossfield and Golfholics (that's too bad). Seems like they raised a bit of money for the prostate cancer organization too which is terrific. Looking forward to many of the other videos to show up as well. Hope they do it again next year. Did anyone go to the tournament and how was it?

Great effort raising all the money. Some of the videos have been OK as well. Find it bizarre that they main man behind it though doesn't have his up there yet though.

Mark Crossfield's reason for not participating is/was as pedantic and arsey as you can get. He got several tweets tagging him from the other YouTube guys and fans alike. When asked if he was taking part in the YouTube Golf Day he said no. When asked why he said "the answer is on my Instagram."

So why not participate and help a worthy cause and mingle with fans? If you look the reason is still on his bio.

"I am a golf coach NOT A YOUTUBER."

Now I have a lot of time for Mark, love his content and thoroughly enjoy him trying to break down the myths and nonsensical statements made by the golf industry as a whole.

The "golf coach NOT A YOUTUBER" statement is the kind of smarmy, smart a*** remark that puts lots of people off. Always has to be right, always has to have the last word and if he's not front and centre he's not interested. If he's not a YouTuber God only knows why he uploads two videos a day.

It's a shame that he is so pedantic and unpleasant but fair play to everyone else for such a great event and money raised.

As for Lockey and Dan I can only imagine it's because he pays a sizeable part of their wages that they also chose to ignore the excitement and buzz of such a big golf event.

I haven't watched Rick Shiels in a long time but he should be commended for making the day such a success.

There’s a very simple reason why Crossfield won’t participate in one of these events. He’s got the short game yips and he’s going to struggle to break 80 if there’s any sort of pressure on him to compete. It’s why he only plays against tour pros; there’s zero expectation for him to win and no pressure.

His credibility is essentially gone if the public sees him put up a yippy, crappy performance that he has no control over the editing.

Which is funny because the Barstool Sports guys posted a video with Breed who was hitting shots like a 15 handicap but he was still having a blast.

I like Crossfield's content as I think his teachings and ideas are generally among the best out there, but there's no question he has a huge ego that doesn't like to share the stage with anyone else. You can see it come through when Dan, Coach or ... even Rory (lol) outplays him - he becomes nasty and quickly rolls out the excuses (just check out the Pebble Beach vids for a recent example). I don't think there's any love lost between him and Shiels so I'm not surprised he's skipping the tournament, particularly given he wouldn't be afforded top billing.

He didn't participate because he's a golf coach and not a YouTuber. He tweeted at the time his Instagram bio tells you why. It's in capital letters on his bio.

That's the reason, he doesn't want to be associated with what he calls ten a penny YouTube "coaches" as he sees himself as better than that.

Agreed. I'm the first to defend him because a lot of what he says is innovative but to make a point over such a good cause is poor form.

Great to see so many of the individual channels interact for the first time. It's created a platform now that can be explored more in years to come. It's a genius idea.

He does not get along with Rick but then again most YT's are ego maniacs so it is always going to be a clash of ego's.

I have to be incredibly bored of life to watch this tournament. I'd only watch majors and nothing else.

Do you know where the "beef" stems from? I wasn't aware those two didn't get along.

I had no idea Rick was putting together something like this. Major props to him. The video was awesome to watch.

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

When he admits on video that he is crappy chipper, how is he actually hiding it?

I really like Crossfields content on YouTube but don't think he comes across well on Twitter. Equally i do find it a tad hyprocritical Crossfield making the point that he's a coach not a YouTuber as his reason for not taking part when the majority of your you tube content isn't coaching/equipment related.

He's popular enough to have helped raise a significant amount of money for charity

I'm going to hazard an uneducated, unsubstantiated guess that some YouTubers are reluctant to play in events where you could see their scores through fear of losing viewers interest if they're not as good as their YouTube channel suggests?

I have a violent allergic reaction to anything Crossfield but when I did (briefly) see his "content" it never crossed my mind that his actual scores would be any good.

Baffles me how can anyone tune it to that guy.
