Flexible Putter Shaft

I recently pulled out an old TP Mills and had forgotten that nice feeling with the pencil thin, flexible shaft. It really creates a better swinging motion, feeling the weight loading the shaft on the backstroke. Wondering if I can find a similar flexible shaft that will fit my Toulon Long Island. Love that putter head, but miss the softer shaft feel!

You could try using a standard .370 iron shaft (verify size with calipers if you have them) and tip it until it gives you the soft feel you're looking for. Most putters use a standard weight shaft and many .370 iron shafts are combination R/S flex with a long raw length. Hireko has a pretty good selection including cheap stepless ones from FST and Apollo. One thing to keep in mind is those old school putter heads are much lighter, probably in the 300g range. A heavy modern head that's 50-70 grams heavier will make any iron shaft feel pretty flexible.

I had seen cases of golfers using graphite iron shaft for putter.

It's a personal preference when it comes to putting. The level of "feel" is different from individual to individual.

You can start by experimenting with whatever you have at hands , used shafts is just fine. go from there without buying new shafts at first.

To me, the preference of the balance of weight and toe release is a personal matter.

Some tour player commented that he prefers a putter with slight toe hung to release a little on the follow through, that's what he is used to, so preferred by him. Might not work for another golfer with a different preference.

"Feel" type of a putter . usually preferred by using a swing gate putting style . More toe hung on the putter whether it's heel shafted or a modern design. A" mechanical" type of a putter , with a more straight back and through ,pushing style of a putting stroke will prefer a stiffer shaft with face balanced feature.

I'm guessing you're a more "feel" type of a putter. A more traditional style of a putter with balance leaning toward the toe should be preferred and a lighter flexible shaft will give you more feel.

Find a putter head that fits your eyes which could give you correct visual alignment to the putting line, then you're set. Find a putter head which can match the true line of intended putt to your perceived line of putt is crucial. All those putter with different head design were playing with the visual perception . So find a putter head that matched your preference is more important than "feel".

Once the line of intended putt can be executed correctly, the feel will come with practice.
