Iron fitting but clubs feel different than during the fitting

Ok I finally broke down and did an iron fitting at club champion and walked away with a good feeling that I finally got a handle on what shafts and clubs fit my swing.

I was playing the ping i200 with KBS v tour 110 stiff and they felt good but my spin was really high and it was killing my distance.

I was fitted in Mizuno 919 hot Metal pros with the Aerotech Steelfiber i95 stiff shafts.

I went and bought them but they feel much stiffer than when I was at the fitting.

I feel like I’m working a little hard with these shafts which is making me swing harder and it’s really messing up my swing.

Question for anyone who has any suggestions, do you think maybe going to a regular flex would help or is there another shaft that would bring my spin rate down and give me a similar feel of the KBS v tour shafts I was playing?

First thing I would do is go to where you got fit and hit them side by side with the fitting cart club and see if they really do feel different. Second thing I would do is check the swing weight vs the fitting cart club and see if the fitting cart club was heavier. Lastly how do the specs you were fit into compare to the specs of the fitting shaft (longer/shorter).

I did notice on someone’s Instagram randomly they showed where they put together clubs . And the pic was of the CEO standing around a bunch of unhappy guys picking iron heads out of a clear bin and I guess assembling them ?

I was not impressed at all with their setup over there at CC HQ. especially for what you guys pay.

You could just order straight from a qualified fitter and have him put it all together himself and hit them in front of him.

Just saying.

I didn’t have them built by CC i took the specs and had them built at the place I have been buying clubs from for years. I also had all the lies checked to make sure they were accurate and everything lined up correctly. Any suggestions?

Also one thing that might be in play here is that it has been cold here and I have hitting them outside with range balls and the temperature has been 50 with some wind. Not sure if that has any affect on the feel as well.

Its kinda crazy, but i feel like posts like this pop up every week. I am starting to be of the opinion that fittings vs what actually shows up tends to vary quite a bit. I know this will considered an unpopular take, but I actually believe fittings are more to narrow down what doesnt work than find a perfect match. I can't speak for the OP or anyone else, but my swing seems to exist within a range, not an exact copy each time, so fitting one day may not work the next. I remember the days when a fitting was grabbing a couple clubs and hitting them in front of a pro, who told you which one looked right. I may be the only one, but I kinda miss those days, now its all indoor sim fittings.

Cold will definitely make a difference. If you were fit a club champion one thing I always wonder about is the extra weight from the adapters they use. I have not personally been fit there but the extra weight at the end of the shaft would make shaft feel a little softer if they don't modify the heads.

I just had some shafts changed at CC (steel to graphite). The fitter made sure to measure the swing weight of the club he put together to make sure the actual build was the same as what I was swinging in the bay. Tested them this weekend and they felt exactly the same.

I was going to suggest calling the fitter at CC and going back in but I see you didn’t have them built there.

did you fit on mats and are you now on grass?

Steelfibers can feel very harsh, more so in cold weather

Regardless of OEM, batches of steel shafts can differ from vendor to vendor. Also, outside/inside temp, the ball and clothing influences how a shaft and ball feel at impact.

I agree with you. Hit with the club you are going to buy or not buy. If you hit it good, great! Buy that sucker.

If not, give it back.
