I very much want her to win - or even show - mind you, but I just don't see any signs of significant improvement this season yet. I really hope I'm wrong. I took the pause in events this weekend to read more about her struggles last year, and it seems she was in a very dark place mentally - as in her saying she didn't even want to get up. Now, I don't know if she meant that literally or figuratively, but I do know that people with depression have said they felt like that. I don't mean to say she was actually depressed or diagnosed or whatever, but it appears she was more affected than just simply in a slump. Think Lexi? Since golf is a 90% mental game, I don't know how long she'll need to fully recover. She spoke at length like she felt like she was letting everyone around her down. Knowing what little I do of her personality, I venture it is one thing to feel like you let yourself down but when you feel like you let your family, coach, fans, sponsors, etc. down, that has to be soul-crushing.

Lydia seems at peace mentally with her not being the world-beater she was a few years ago, maybe In Gee wants to learn how to make golf fun again? (I'll be selling MGFA hats soon, FYI) I don't know, just thinking out loud. I'd argue it would be hard to not enjoy a round of golf with Lydia, she seems like a blast.

I'd say the happiness shown by the other players when congratulating Tiger this year at the Masters was pretty genuine.

I have been impressed at how she seems to treat everyone from fellow players to the media quite well even when things aren't going great (maybe her swing coaches/caddies will have a different opinion). At times, I've wondered if she is "happy as is" (which is fine) to the detriment of her game. But looking at some past stuff, I think she was probably the same before - she just happened to be winning a lot then.

I started to follow Lydia when she's 15 and paired in the final group with Jiyai Shin and Stacy Lewis at 2012 CN Canadian Open and beat everyone handily.

Her demeanor has always been the same; now and then.

I firmly believe people are born with a personality that rarely changes.

"Monday, In-Kyung Kim, a seven-time winner on the LPGA Tour, was back in the desert golfing. This time, there was little fanfare, but what she was doing was quite rare. Kim was competing in first-stage qualifying for the men's U.S. Open at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, put on by the USGA and the SCGA.

She shot an 81 on the 7,192-yard course, nine strokes off the qualifying pace, but she said the goal wasn't as much to qualify as to try something different and get some competition in as the women's tour is off for the next couple weeks."

Interesting. Gives some credence to the idea that the very low handicap male amateur will be able to beat the LPGA pros consistently if the course is long enough. If you said the male scratch was off of ~7,000 yard tees / driving it 275 yards on average, i thought it would be close around 7,000 yards (LPGA pro kills them at 6,500).

Personally, I find that going back a set of tees is more difficult than the rating/slope would suggest (vs. the gain from moving up a box). Part of it may be mental knowing I need to hit near perfect shots. At my level, I also think the efficiency with the longer clubs drops off faster than how it does for better players.

Kristen Gillman didn't qualify for USWO; she finished with +2.

This will put a big dent on her drive for Rookie of the Year race.

Kudo's to Inky for taking a risk and trying to improve her game during the break.

Boo's to Inbee and So Yeon for flying back to Korea to beat up on some kids trying to make their dreams come true playing on the JLPGA. No one gets better by playing lesser competition.

Lol. Inbee is the defending champion. So Yeon was a winner here in '09.

I didn't watch, because - dare I say it - I am not a Tiger fan . But good to know they were all happy too, I think the PGA needs more of that. And on Tiger, I respect his abilities, if not the person.

Bless I K's heart hope she had a good time, but really a Men's US Open set up would crush the girls IMO, especially I K from a distance stand point, she be hitting Hybrids on every 2nd shot and you better hope you don't hit it into a the rough on the Men's set-up, chip out city cause I'm not sure there are very may girls on the LPGA who can hit it 100 yards out of that rough. I think the "Open" (British) would be a better chance at making it and possibly having a chance at a cut. US Open are so long and so fast on the greens, I personally feel the conditions are too much for the girls and honestly most men lol Chances are there's gonna be a Par 3 that's longer than the LPGA driving average that week lol But again good for I K she tried to earn it and i always support and respect that.

Doesn't the previous season's USGA AM winner get a spot or do they lose it if they turn pro?

They lose it immediately after they turn pro.

Jennifer Kupcho and Yealimi Noh were in the same boat; Jennifer qualified but Yealimi misses out.

Criteria seems weird and inconsistent with the Am's at the US Open. Brooke top 10'd at 16 as an Am but her Top 10 as an Am got her into the the field at 17 the year she turned pro. I know the circumstances are slightly different but you'd think they'd treat Am accomplishment the same way. Maybe the difference is Brooke qualified for the US open at 16 and it wasn't a USGA spot being given (still both would have qualified IMO), still seems a little inconsistent IMO.

Top 10 at USWO earn exemptions for next year is an USWO policy; disregarding the status of the players.

US Women's Amateur, US Junior Girl, ANWA and WAGR exemptions all clearly specify that players need to remain as amateurs to keep the privilege.

"Alex Kang benefited from his sister’s support Monday while firing a 7-under-par 65 to claim the low round of the U.S. Open local qualifier at the Sun Mountain course at Las Vegas Paiute Resort.

Kang’s bogey-free score was helped by guidance from sister Danielle, who served as his caddie. Danielle Kang is an LPGA Tour major tournament champion, having won the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, and currently ranks 12th on this year’s tour money list.

“I had a lot fun with my sister, I made some putts and it’s always fun to shoot 65,” said Kang, a Web.com Tour player who finished tied for 10th at last year’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. “She had positive vibes and just told me to stay calm and stay chill.”

US Senior Women's Open is this week. Very little hype even on the USGA website probably because of the PGA. I'm guessing Inkster, Alfredsson, Davies at the top although Juli and Laura haven't played well on any tour this year. Is it just me or are there some "obvious" players missing? Pat Bradley, Pat Hurst, Trish Johnson, Michelle McGann? Some may not be the right age. I really thought players like Betsy King, the Lunn sisters Joann Mills, Sherri Steinhauer, etc would jump more on this tournament but it seems many are happy to be away from golf.

:D Beat me to it, classic. I've always loved Danielle's fire on the course. Outside of the round, she was so nice and accommodating to the kids wanting autographs, it was cool.

> Just tuned into the LET on GC -- Caroline Hedwall is carrying her own bag!

There are a lot of things, I would imagine at the amateur/lower pro levels that would surprise us. At the Amateur Publinks a few years ago, I remember players not having a full set of clubs, carrying their own bags and having ball flights and positioning that was so parallel to ground you'd wonder if they were doing it on purpose or if it was they just didn't have the skill. Caroline Hedwall is the viking Laura Davies, has pro wins worldwide, Solheim Cup teams, accomplished collegiate player in the US etc so I can see where it'd be surprising.

I am not saying this to put Laura Davies down but she is a hall of famer one of the best female players of the last 30 years and her house recently featured on the USGA webpage is modest. It is a perfectly nice house but probably isn't much larger than a couple thousand sq ft and the yard(garden) isn't huge. Colin Montgomorie, comparatively has a less accomplished career but I can imagine he probably owns a couple of homes. A lot of the women really get the shorter end of the stick.

Speaking of getting paid, would anyone know why some of the ladies in the Senior Open wold be amateurs? If I were at that point I would try to cash a check if I could. They likely aren't waiting for college scholarships or such. I know that some companies and organizations prohibit employees from earning incomes outside of that particular job or have clauses against 2nd jobs but that seems to be the exception rather than the norm.

^^It's one event to make a couple bucks. There are very few options for pro senior women golfers. The women you refer to stay amateur to be able to compete. Ideally in club level or state level events.

^^ That makes a lot of sense although I read that all pro participants got $2,000 whether they made the cut or not. The last person to make the cut gets around $3,500. I guess it's just me thinking that $3,500 would make a nice dent in my credit card debt lol.

Helen Alfredsson won with a one-over total. Wasn't she working for the LPGA in development or something along those lines?

Maria Fassi, who along with Jennifer Kupcho orchestrated a fairy tale ending to the inaugural Augusta National Women Championship, won 2019 NCAA individual champion. Jennifer was the individual champ;ion last year.

Both Maria and Jennifer will make their LPGA debut next week at USWO.

"After a close call in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur last month, this victory seemed poetic for the Arkanas senior. Local knowledge, coupled with her extraordinary power and a love of the stage, brought us this made-for-Fassi moment."

Maria played fantastic in the tough conditions. Florida'a Sierra Brooks played early in calmer conditions, and set the clubhouse lead at -4. Maria played in one of the latter groups, and finished at -8.

Maybe sometimes for the girls a good caddie is hard to find lol
