He had a shot beside a small tree. One where he’d have to hit the tree on his follow through. And he hit it. Hard. Bent the shaft and came out holding his wrist. Tried to play it off and say it was fine. Even injured and taped up ever since

I enjoy watching him play in general so it's a little disappointing in the first place.

I also thought this would've been cool and a neat part of history.

Before he withdrew, every single top 100 ranked player was supposed to be in the field for the first time ever.

The wrist seems to have been dodgy since autumn last year. He was taped up at the Tour Championship and the Ryder Cup.

Not sure what injury he has exactly but I had a fracture of the hamate bone in my lead hand wrist. It took about 3 months of no full swings for it to fully heal and not hurt. That particular injury is caused by repetitive trauma or major acute trauma. If you really swing down into and pinch the ball on hard fairways or mats on the range that can cause it as well as if you whack into something particularly hard, like say a tree root.

WTF, you understand the PGA has mostly been played in August forever? I’ll keep the references simpler.

Oh they’ll just shoot it full of steroids so it heals ASAP. Do some PT on it.

Hopefully no surgery needed to remove bone fragments.

Totally depends on what the injury actually is. If its Hook of the Hamate - surgery required. Complete tears of central and peripheral fibers of TFCC - surgery highly recommended. Partial tears or "good location" of tears - surgery may be avoided. Both - ruh rah rage! Then you start looking into radial variance and the part that it plays. Im sure there are some pretty good wrist/hand specialists that have already examined and made recommendations to the guy. As some one who had both a Cent/Periph TFCC tear with a HH Break, I wish him the best of luck!!

Seems like he was holding his right wrist - which would not be the more common HH or TFCC injury. Hopefully just some soft tissue damage due to trauma/impact.

Ferguson, since you have a nose for this kind of “stuff” do you feel there could be “more to the story” or even possibly “concerning elements” of the story are being deliberately “withheld” from us?

You mean like he hurt it during a bank robbery ? That kind of extra info ?

Lol. The biggest concern is how this will impact his crocheting stroke post surgery. With the spring alpaca ? yarn colors due to arrive any day now and the Jo-Ann national baby blanket contest around the corner. He’s going to have to PT this thing hard to get into shape.

I know there is more to this, yes. Thanks for asking.

The article at PGA Tour.com stated something I found a bit strange.

**"He first hurt his wrist playing an awkward shot at The Honda Classic earlier this year."**

We all know that he "first" hurt his wrist as a young lad while attending Alabama but I am wondering where and when the "second injury" occurred subsequent to the Honda. My guess is that the tree inflamed the musculature at the said wrist but the "second injury" could have been a fall or slammed in a car door.

I wondered if it didn’t have something to do with a “money game” that Phil “organized”. Could have been a dispute on one of their high-dollar “bets”.
