SuperSpeed Golf training system

Recommended Posts

Today I finished my 5th SSG workout over the last 10 days. This time around, I have rededicated myself to just keep doing the workouts, and not worry about speeds. Just keep grinding away. Well I was at the range and noticed that the ball was going farther than normal. Like 8-12 yards farther. No question. The funny part was that I wasn't hitting the ball particularly solidly. I have had overspeed workouts increase my speed before, but never so quickly. I am doing two things differently this time around. I do SSG every other day, and I do it in the morning, while I am fresh and before any other workouts or exercise. I am kinda excited about this. I could definitely use more swing speed. I am also working hard on increasing my grip strength. That could be helping as well.

I used Amazon for the radar. Without it, you will learn very little. I was shocked at how soon I got my left hand swing over 100, need to get a left hand club to hit balls with.

I bought the radar with the speedsticks. Don't see how you could really measure any progress without it.

Anyway I agree with the above, my left hand swing has probably doubled. Would have been nice to have my dominant side double too right. I should have been measuring it as well but haven't been.

Mine improved a little, but not much. I feel your pain, I would hate to see what I look like swingy lefty. If it looks anywhere near as bad as it feels, I'm sure it's disgusting bordering on comical.

Really? My dominant side has increased much...always in the 134-142 but my non dominant has increased dramatically! My non-dominate green has increased from 105ish to 126-135! No clue why my dominate hasn't increased as dramatic but I've gained 4 mph on my driver.

I had some decent gains, but no improvements in aesthetics!

haha true. There's some days my non-dominant swing is syncing great, then all of a sudden I swing like a monkey trying to hump a football.

> Holy smokes you guys get high numbers. I must be swinging things wrong or measuring wrong. I'm maxing my green at 117 right now. My normal swing speed is 110. I have it setup where I would have a ball, partial step back so I don't hit the radar.

I'm with you, top RH swing has been 110, left hand 103. Ordered a LH 6 hybrid head, would be great to be able to hit it some instead of just chipping out of trees.

Contest for biggest differential in dominant green to non-dom. I'm at work right now so don't have my exact numbers but after 4 sessions, I think my RH green is 125ish and my LH green is 85ish. =D

Pretty sure my lefty swing is worse looking and more uncoordinated than all y'all.

I might win that, I have never once done non dominant swings. I am scared to lol.

Swing hard in case you hit it!

> I have recommitted myself to doing the SSG program. A few years ago, I used an overspeed training program to gain 14 mph. Unfortunately, I didn't keep up the training and eventually lost all my gains. Recently I read a very interesting review/interview about SSG on another web site and it opened my eyes to a few things. In particular, you shouldn't expect continual gains while training. Basically you make some gains, then plateau for six to eight weeks or more. Then you get another bump, then plateau again. Staying with the training during the plateaus is crucial since that is how you make the gains permanent.

>

> My approach this time is a little different. I am going to train about every other day, unless I find I am really gassed. I am going to train in the morning while I am fresh. No more training after workouts. I am going to stick with the program for six months regardless of whether I am seeing big gains or not.

>

> The other thing I am adding to the mix is grip strength training. Grip strength is one of the areas where the average pro is WAY stronger than the average am. Not much is written about this, but it is very important IMO.

>

> Lastly, I am going to mix in some speed training while actually hitting balls. In the past, I've found this to be a huge benefit for several reasons.

>

> Now I just need to get to it lol.

This is the same method i use, and I believe its the correct way to think about it

Thanks for the reply. This thread seems to have fizzled out a little bit. Are people giving up on it during golf season?

I ended up ordering two FJ rain gloves, that should do the trick.

As much as the warm up is annoying, I have been doing it. Seems like a good idea in the long run.

Having done the SSG thing before, I would definitely say it is a grind. Some of the guys who were most gung ho originally have now moved on. I'm sticking with it this time around, with some changes to my routine from previous efforts. BTW, I live in the south, and I wear two rain gloves at my range sessions in the summer.

Definitely easy to get out of the routine. When I got them a couple years ago did it for about 6 weeks. Saw good gains then got lazy. I’m committed again and will try to do it for a full year minimum. I’m sick of being 50 yards behind one of my coworkers. Yeah, he hits it out there, but I shouldn’t be 50 yards behind him.

Glad you got it and are putting good use to them. Whenever I did my swings I always wore two gloves as well. Overall with Superspeed I just noticed too many ball-striking issues on course. I’m trying to figure out a way that I can do the program without affecting contact but can’t really find anything

length is 45" .335 if my calipers are to be believed. Swingweight of yellow and green too low to measure. Blue is B5 and Red is E0.

total weight, yellow 230 g. green is 264, blue is 297 and red is 342. Not sure how to come up with a weight for just the weight?

weights are one inch diameter, yellow weight 1.75 with metal lathed out of it, green is 1 5/8, blue is 1 15/16, red 2 3/8.

Yellow club is sold in youth and women's sets, I ended up with all 4 and the wife isn't trying them. The clubs will show you that light weight does go faster. Kind of entertaining varying your swing, grip and watching the numbers change.

Now through four sessions with SS protocol 1. My final green on day one was at 119 and on day four was up to 132. The SSR is a must have. Not only does it allow you to measure your progress but it helps with finding speed, shoulder turn, hips firing, lag, etc. It has allowed me to experiment and find where additional speed can come from. Not sure this has translated at all on the course, but its a good 15 min cardio session.

So I had surgery about 2 months ago and haven’t been able to do the SSG protocols since right before the surgery. I’m finally to the point to where I can do everything like I could before the surgery. Has anyone taken off that long for whatever reason and then pick up where they left off in the protocols, or did you just start over from the beginning? I was at Level 3 before the surgery.
