Mizuno ST 190 Driver

Hit the ST190 yesterday. Surprisingly forgiving, but the sound and feel are amazing. Longer than my 400 max and I haven't really tuned it in yet. Might need to add some weight to the head, but we'll see. Definitely going to get an extended look.

Turned my 190G in for the F9... not because it was a bad driver, I just don't think it was the right combo... Could hit some real bombs, but then some really erratic drives on the next hole. If the F9 doesn't live up the regular 190 with the Atmos blue or Tensei blue will get a shot... The 190G may be spinning just a tad too low for me, but when hit well, it's an absolute cannon...

Yes the sound and feel are really impressive with this one. Very pleasing to the eye. I will say the hosel has made a difference, I had it -1 loft and upright position and could hit nothing but big draws. I since changed it to the regular -1 loft position and boom straight to slight draw balls.

As awesome as the sound and feel are, I think I was as impressed with off-center strikes. I hit a couple toward the heel that I would have expected to have some significant right on them and they stayed online for the most part. Plays at 44.5 right now and is at D1. I usually play 45 and D3 or D4. Going to hit a few more and then maybe extend to 45 or add some head weight to get to D3.

Hmm nope. Maybe because it has some radius to the edge where the face meets the top?

I did an outdoor fitting and my pro carries and likes the Epics Line up. It was similar with the ST190 slightly better. I did not care for the busy graphics on the face of the Epic but that club performs also. Try the Tensei White X in the Mizuno. Best ball speeds and smash by far for me. Only combo that gave me a few 1.49 smash factors. Above all else have fun! 3 good choices.

Ok guys who have or have hit ST190 I want some assistance if you please. My son, a 15 year old scratch player with a 107 mph swing speed, is needing a driver upgrade. Mizuno will be conducting a demo day at the home course Sunday. I read the Tensei blue and Tensei white shafts seem to work well. Son seems to prefer low to mid shafts and low to low mid spin. If those shafts are available, I will have him try those. What other shafts would you recommend?

Atmos Black

I have a Diamana W series in mine. Love the shaft. Haven’t had enough time to see if it’s a good combination or not.

well, i didn't even get to properly test the ST190 -- since they didn't have an x flex shaft in the matrix for me to try. smh. ended up with the epic flash sz

Ahh man that stinks....weird they would not have extra shafts.....O well the SZ is a solid club and it looks like it will match your others well. What kind of #'s you see with SZ? Which shafts were good?

the stock hzrdus smoke 70g 6.5 was actually really good for me. 171-173 ballspeeds, 11.0-11.5* launch, 1950-2200 spin on good strikes and dispersion was very good as well.

You can go right to the Mizuno site and look at the shaft line-up. The specs are easy to digest.

My st190 should be here by the weekend. Gonna put a tensei blue pro in it. Really liked the atmos blue it comes with. Was just just to loose for me. The tensei should be a good fit. I play that shaft in my 910d3 right now

I have been playing mine for probably 10 rounds now. 1 or 2 off days but that was of course garbage in and garbage out. I think I am past the honeymoon and this one is the first that has removed all thoughts about moving back to a beloved M2. I think it feels a little light but it keeps finding fairways and long for me. Played with a local college player yesterday. We had 349 par 4 from an elevated tee and about 7 - 10 mph behind us. He flew the left green side trap and I was only about 60 yards back LOL. I would trade my 190 for his years :-)

Let the shaft hoing begin. Had this laying around from my 910d3. Original v2 76 stiff. Gonna tip it to get rid of the hosel marks from the titleist tip. Playing 44.5 was playing 45.5 in the titleist so some room to play. Got a tensei pro blue on the way as well

Yup, head I received looked like it had as much loft showing as my 7w, even in full lower with a 9.5* head....completely different than the demo head I hit, which I loved.

Couldn't get passed it and sold it on the bst. Wanted to love it but the face angle and the look of extreme loft showing killed it for me.

I'm sure i read somewhere that it's to do with the line that goes around the top edge of the head. It's supposed to inspire confidence whilst using lower lofts. Iv'e got the G head, not sure if theyre all the same. One thing for sure, when you mince it, it aint short. Still fiddling with all the settings but like all adjustables, when you change something it seems to alter the whole feel of the shaft.

Still loving mine after about 25 rounds.

I had the TS3 before this (had it stolen) and so far I'm to missing that driver at all.

Looks great, feels better, as long as anything else and it finds fairways.

Always played Mizuno irons and wanted to like their drivers but never hit one I liked until this one.

Everything I want in driver.

Still testing an ST190 against my 400Max. Better sound and feel. Looks better at address. Definitely a bit longer. Not enough time with it yet to tell if it is the fairway finder that the Max is, but it’s definitely forgiving.

Sorry if this has been discussed but this is very interesting in light of what I'm reading in the F9 thread and hitting it lower than the center and how much worse it performs. As was discussed in that thread, drivers are really meant to be hit at the midline and above. Apparently, they have tried to somewhat mitigate that through the below:

"Mizuno defines CORAREA as the part of the face that measures greater than .80 COR. The lower you go on the face, COR drops off, as does ball speed. “That’s because the ball is impacting on the more rigid part of the face,” says Voshall. “What we’re trying to do is make that bottom part act more like the center or the top.”

The WAVE sole softens that acute angle to get a little more trampolining lower on the face. "
