Just got two HONMA Tour world 747 drivers to test

My boy (14) just received two of these straight from Japan when his sponsor was over there for the trade show. Will try and get a detailed review posted after we see the numbers on Trackman and course.

 

Initial thoughts after a few buckets at the range with crappy balls.

 

HONMA have perfectly hidden the carbon crown so it just looks like a full titanium crown. No markings whatsoever.

 

The adjustability of this driver is off the charts amazing. Lie, loft, club face, CG can all be altered without changing shaft spine alignment. Sponsor even had some heavier weight screws custom made because the head runs a tad over 10 grams lighter.

 

Driver went straight and high with HZRDUS Smoke 6.5 based on eye test. Will try the head with Tour AD IZ-6 when we get around to it.

 

Won't say it's any longer than his present Epic SZ or not yet, but signs are encouraging. Will put it up against the Epic Flash SZ if/when the sponsor gets it for him to try.

If it hits and adjusts like the Homna G1-X i have been hitting the last couple of years then it is a winner. Do those have the 2 adjustments with the special sleeve on the wrench and the concentric bushing? If it is anything like mine then you can really fine tune it to fit you or him but it may take some time and effort. But once you get it tweaked and tuned it will be worth it. For me none of the newer stuff works better including any of the Cally Jailbird drivers or the TM Twisted Sister face. For me it even out performed the G-400. Before anyone flames me I am not saying they are not good drivers but the G1-X even though is is 2 years old still works great for me`

I didn't get my first sponsor until I was 27 years old after about a decade of seriously hard drinking.

BigStu, if this is your GX1 driver model (link), it has the same adjustments except for the optional (lengthening) spacer. Which is a cool idea and wonder if it's interchangeable with the TW747 line.

I think it's the system you describe. It's crazy how detailed one can dial in driver face, lie and loft. Definitely the best I've seen.

My boy is almost 15 and 6'2 who transitioned from Judo two+ years ago after tiring of the grind. Ball speed is 170+ but can't yet hit a soft 30 yard wedge to save his life.

We looked into the rules under the R & A as we are in Asia. Rule 6 under guidelines for low handicap golfers says he can accept equipment if zero advertisement is involved.

 

As for his grandfather, I wish he was still with us to sponsor his grandson.

Same 460 head size. Not sure why, but we always get two to try.

Yes, Honma does it's own adapters. We got the heads with the adapters. My boy didn't want the Honma house shaft.

Now I liked the Homna House shaft especially after I read up on them on their web site--- But then again I can see his point because I do not have nearly the swing speed he does. The stock R flex in mine is as smooth as silk for me.

Is the adapter metal? Can it easily be changed from shaft to shaft?

The attachment is just Honmas version of what the majors have. Easy to switch shafts.

Sorry. I forgot it. The sponsor got some custom weight screws made up to account for the difference. Can take a photo, but it just looks like the original silver one that came with the set.
