Bandon Dunes Solstice 2019

Recommended Posts

Here are my pre- solstice times...

My brother Jamie and I are playing. I have no idea if we are already paired up, but if not we'd love to play with another wrx'er. Counting down the days...

Also just purchased this for the trip. My first MacKenzie and I am already in love with it after walking for 2 rounds...

My longest day at Bandon was 36 holes and then preserve. I can't even imagine playing all 4 in one day, but man if this isn't number 1 on my bucket list. Everyone who is going, ENJOY and report back!

1st full price, 2nd half price, 3rd free, 4th they pay you a crisp $100 bill - this is the standing policy available year round.

Solstice event is about the experience and being out there with a bunch of other golf nuts. From the description by past players the entrance fee gets you a welcome party, swag, food, and a guarantee of fast enough rounds with a tee sheet closed to non-solstice play so that 4 rounds are possible.

I received an email today from Bandon asking for some golfer info: shirt size, shoe size, handicap, caddy or no caddy, etc. I think what I might do is get a caddy and split it between my father-in-law and myself. He can have him 2 rounds and I can take him the other 2. I know they are super knowledgeable about the course and everything, I just hate having someone around me watching. I feel like I will have to play a certain way, instead of my own crap game.

Hmmm... No email here yet. My brother and I probably won't take caddies to keep the cost down a little, not a necessity since we can carry our bags or take the push cart without an issue. I think the caddy would definitely be a plus overall, especially if you haven't played the courses before. But as I posted above, we are going to make it around each course once before the solstice event and I've had the luxury of playing all of the courses before.

Dammit, now I'm going to be checking my inbox constantly until that email comes...

update for me...fast response from Bandon, said they sent the email but I never received it (checked spam folder and everything). Oh well, got the link and submitted my info. Customer service from Bandon is a model for every other golf resort (or any company for that matter)!

Can't wait to see the swag and play the event!

They’re saying the polo is Peter Millar and the shoes from a company called “Recovery”? But I can’t find said Recovery company. Any help?

Really glad i am going to be able to make it. For a moment there, it looked like the days (fathers day in the vicinity didnt help) wouldnt work. Im excited for the event, and really glad to see a bunch of WRXers getting ready to roll. It should be a great day. Ive read a few posts from previous events, and looks like the tee gifts are really nice and include a nice mix of gear and gadgets.

Ive never been to Bandon during summer before, so im curious to see how the courses and strategy will change from the rain and hail I’ve had during the shoulder/off season. Also excited to not play in a full rain suit!

Leaning towards caddie for the full four rounds. Pricey, but I don’t want to find myself limping or regretting not splurging once I’m teeing off the 4th round!

The “recovery” shoes aren’t a brand. They are a slip on/clog type shoe that’s designed for marathon/Ironman recovery. No idea what they look like but it sounds like it’s exactly what I’ll be using for the days following the event.

When are you guys going to be there? I know Mike sounds like you are getting in a few days a head of time to play a few rounds. We are flying into Eugene on Sunday the 16th, then driving down to Bandon the next morning. We want to try and get there before noon, so we can mess around at the practice range, shorties, and the punchbowl.

What are you guys planning on wearing on the day of the solstice? I know the weather out there can be unpredictable but I think I am going to go the shorts route with a polo and a windbreaker that I can take off after my big Word not allowed starts to get overheated. The 10 day forecast shows around 60 degrees so I think I will be good without pants. I am gonna bring a couple pairs of shoes and plenty of socks. It sounds like we can take a backpack and leave it at the start of each course so we can grab gear if needed inbetween rounds. I got a list of some random stuff for that bag anything you guys can think of that would be helpful?

I bought some anti-chafe cream for the 26 mile trek. Remember chapstick or lip balm, as well as sunscreen. You will end up wind burnt more than sun burnt based on my previous Bandon rounds.

I'm thinking the start will require a few layers since overnight lows are in the 40s. I'm taking my Mackenzie bag, so all of clothing changes will be between rounds. I'm going with the layer approach, but will probably stick with pants the whole day. My previous trips taught me that 60s in Oregon is a little chiller than 60s in SC. There will be at least 15mph winds even on a calm day.

I actually bought some new Balega socks for the event...

https://www.gobros.com/balega-blister-resist-socks-white-bal8148.html

have worn these for years and they are awesome. I figure I'll change socks between rounds and rotate between 2 pairs of shoes.

All of this assumes no rain... Fingers crossed.
