Kick off steak dinner last night and boy are we excited. Given everyone's views and bucket list here is where we landed:

Day 1: Arrive San Fran from Australia.

Day 2: Drive San Fran to Pasatiempo. Golf at Pasatiempo. Drive Pasatimepo to Pebble Beach.

Day 3: Golf at Spyglass Hill.

Day 4: Golf at Pebble Beach. Drive Pebble to San Fran.

Day 5: Fly San Fran to Atlanta. Drive Atlanta to Augusta.

Day 6: MASTERS PRACTICE DAY

Day 7: MASTERS DAY 1

Day 8: MASTERS DAY 2

Day 9: MASTERS Day 3

Day 10: MASTERS Day 4

Day 11: Drive Augusta to Pinehurst

Day 12: Pinehurst #2

Day 13: Pinehurst #8

Day 14: Drive Pinehurst to Charlotte. Fly Charlotte to Jacksonville.

Day 15: Golf at TPC Sawgrass.

Day 16: Fly Jacksonville to LA.

Day 17: Fly LA to Australia.

Golf courses are pretty much locked in but my next question is, am I travelling to and from the right airports?

Thanks in advance.

Well done (and nicely organized)!

I'll toss this out, and likely get blasted for it, but 5 days at the Masters is an awful lot. If I had a vote on the itinerary, I'd suggest going to the tournament on Wed, Thursday & Sunday and fit a couple of other rounds in (Palemetto/Sage Valley).

That's quite the trip. I don't even want to ask what the total cost will be.

On the airport front, Raleigh is closer to Pinehurst than Charlotte. I don't know which one has better flight options to Jacksonville.

-1 for flying from Raleigh instead. There are no directs from RDU to Jacksonville. We went to Sawgrass last fall and drove instead since there wasn't anything direct.

You might consider driving from Pinehurst to Jacksonville. It’s about 6.5 hours of driving. At the same time, it’s 2 hrs drive Pinehurst to Charlotte, plus 2 hour arrival before your flight, plus 1 hour flight, plus however long it takes to wait for your luggage and get your transportation in Jacksonville and drive to Sawgrass.

Once you factor in rest stops and meals, It’s probably only an hour or two extra to drive, and you eliminate the possibility of lost luggage. You’ve budgeted the whole day, I’d consider a road trip.

That. It is an EASY drive to Jacksonville from Charlotte and would be a lot less hassle.

Another catch up last night and the trip has been tweaked a little:

- Pinehurst first (#2 and #8)

- Arrive at Augusta a day earlier to go to the practice round and possibly play Sage Valley.

- Sawgrass cut and head straight to Pebble Beach.

- LA added with golf at LACC and Riviera.

Does anyone have any info on Sage Valley? I’ve seen the pics and it looks great but not sure I can justify the cost now that we’re adding LACC and Riviera. Thoughts?

Sage will need to be arranged through a member, or possibly through your Club Professional. From the looks of your recent additions to the itinerary, you've got a heavyweight connection somewhere...

Not sure what the current Guest rate is at Sage, but was around $250 4-5 years ago (not during Masters week). A lot of clubs in that area raise rates and limit Member/Guest access on Tournament Week to host outside/corporate events. I'm not sure if Sage does or not, but will add we were late in planning our trip down last year (early March), and my connection couldn't get 2 of us a time.

  • 3 months later...

Hey guys,

So the trip is now booked and the deposit has been paid... to say I’m excited is an understatement!

Here’s the final itinerary:

Pinehurst - #2, #4 and #8.

The Masters - Tuesday and all 4 days

Pebble Beach & Spyglass Hill

Torrey Pines South

So we’ll tick off 3 of the next 6 US Open venues.

Any advice on places to eat and drink or things to do along the way in those areas please let me know.

Cheers!

Sorry I am in late on this one, but for informational purposes. I used to caddy at Sage Valley when I was in college and also have now played there as a guest numerous times. The course is about as pristine as they get and they take care you like no other course I have ever been to. The experience is amazing, I grew up in the area and know people who have played it and Augusta numerous times and get the same feedback that they take care you just as much if not more than Augusta. Which was the intent of the course when it was built, to try and rival Augusta, but with the only barrier to entry being $$$. The course has a few really solid holes and even has 3 dormie holes you can play under lights at night. However, past the experience, conditions, and those few holes the layout isn't my favorite. Take it for what it is worth.
