PXG Gen 2 Drivers Muted?

Easy question fellas, for those who have hit these drivers are they extremely muted like the Cobra F9 for example? How would you describe the sound/feel. Thanks! BB

Well I’ve hit and played both and the F9 and PXG Gen 2 have different sounds and feel to me. The PXG Gen 2 is definitely the best feeling / sounding driver I’ve ever hit. Really solid, muted sound for sure. The F9 has more of a “springy” feel and a “livelier” sound, if that makes sense at all.

I wasn’t a fan of the dull thud from my F9. I’m hoping the PXG has a little more snap if that makes any sense at all ?. Doesn’t need to be loud or tingly just more crisp less blunt feeling. Looking forward to comments...

if you don't like the sound of the F9 (perfect to me and not dull at all) then you will hate the PXG Gen2...I've hit both back to back outdoors and the F9 has definite crack, while the PXG sounds more dull/muted. it's due to the waffle/elasomer? insert inside the head. it's not as dead sounding as the Gen1 X versions, but still not as loud as the Cobra.

That’s a deal breaker, just can’t do that hard/dull sound and feel. The only composite head in that class that I really loved was the FT-9ta from back in the day. It had a unique snap to it which was appealing.

I’m a very low spin ball striker with a smooth 105mph swing speed so I really benefit from higher MOI without sacrificing ball speeds or stressing over high spin. I went with the XF and the UST Helium Black 5. I’m the poster child for sneaky long 50yr olds! Or in other words, the anti-Wrx’r setup ? The good part, the other half can benefit from a PXG review from a little different perspective. BB

I ordered an XF on sat and was told 3 weeks lead time. Sat was the first time I’d hit the club. Ordered it on the spot. Sound is definitely muted, but in an awesome way — just a completely solid thud. Have been gaming a 2017 Callaway Epic (very good club) but found the XF’s look, feel, and sound to be superior. Was not on a launch monitor, but the XF appeared to be spinning less on mis-hits and the dispersion was tight. Super excited for it to arrive.

Question for gen 2 driver owners...I just picked one up off the BST and it's as if the tip doesnt fully insert into the head. Is this normal?

I have two Gen2 drivers and they both seat about the same as yours.

Ok, good to know. Yes, its fully tightened, must be by design for some reason. Kind of odd for such a high end brand. Looks unfinished and cheap to me

It appears your gap is a bit wider than my 0811X

Sure does. Mine doesnt look right to me, but I have no experience with the brand to know otherwise.

All of the drivers I’ve seen definitely have that gap. It’s just the way the adaptor seats.

My adapter sits the same way but there are some orientations where the gap is smaller and some where my gap is larger, I think it may be a result of the angle of the lie and the face angle when changing settings.

Thanks guys. Had a chance to hit it today and it's surprisingly good. The sound is definitely a muted thwack, which sounds awesome to me, and the ball feels as if it trampolines off the face when you hit it. I expected it to feel a bit dead based off of the sound I've heard it make from other players. The stock speeder TR is pretty good as well, dont think I'll be shaft searching which is nice. Mizuno is going on the bst tonight!

Agreed. For reference, it's the total opposite feeling of the Callaway jailbreak faces which have a hard/dead feeling on impact. These PXG drivers feel very jumpy when you catch one. The sound I would describe as a composite slow pitch softball bat on a cold day.
