$-taper shaft

I have recently tried this shaft and thought it felt great. I am strongly thinking about getting a set with this shaft. I wanted to get the opinions of those that play it. Especially if you are a stronger player. Thanks.

I went in to get fitted specifically for iron shafts last year, and the $ taper was, by far, the best shaft I hit. And I hit them ALL. I've been playing them for about half a year now and love them. I used to play the KBS Tour, which I liked a lot for the feel but didn't love the trajectory. The $ taper gives me that same feel, but much better flight. Really stable feeling while also feeling soft. I've hit some roped iron shots this season that have held their line and went exactly where I was aiming. Just for reference, my average swing speed with a 6i is 90.

Interested in these shafts as well. I tend to get steep and have high launch high spin and need something to help me lower my flight. My 7i swing speed is same, 89-91. Currently playing modus 120s. Like the weight, but getting really high launch.

Thanks, I am looking for those that would fit in the X flex range. Sounds like you would be there. I have been playing DG AMT whites in X flex and i am just not sure we get along all that well. The ascending mass thing may be a miss for me.

Similar SS to "2me". Played them for a while in the Rogue Pro. Not bad but not for me.

Have tried them on another iron head as well. Feel is a bit more stout than the DGS300 I have. Also "feel" a bit heavier than my DGS as well (but they're not). Similar to the C-Tapers which I had for a while.

According to the LM they seem to kill a fair bit of spin,,,,,,, so for a high spin player that wants to bring their spin down a bit they're certainly worth a try.

I'm actually playing the $ taper in stiff. I didn't try an X as I typically don't get along with them....I feel like I have to swing out of my shoes....it's a mental thing for sure. For what it's worth, I did hit the C taper lite in X. Got comparable numbers with that shaft and the $ taper. The C taper was my second favorite shaft that I hit.

I tested them at Club Champion and they felt great... a bit heavier in the hands and certainly lower spin, about 500 rpms. My launch was about half a degree or so higher on average... forget the trackman numbers. I gained about 7 yards of carry and was hitting my 6 ~200+ carry with them and they rolled about 10 yards. I was playing standard x100s before hand.

The money tapers are great shafts for sure. They felt great in 130x and kill spin. Are they worth the $55 a shaft or whatever? I'm on the fence on that, chose to stick with X100s since I know the feel and can shape them a bit easier. Also, the data set is so small that I don't truly feel like the dispersion increase was there.

Have you tried normal x100s and not the AMT? If you are a stronger player, you can certainly handle those. I have heard mixed things about the AMT, but i do know that heavier gets along with me better.

I played the standard X100 for years. I know they are good. The AMT shafts I think are good, but I just do not seem to be consistent with them especially the longer lighter irons.

I played X100s for years and then 6.5 rifle and have tried many shafts since my swingswing went down just slightly and I play a bit less. I am a plus handicap and former club pro. I put the $taper in S+ flex in play about a month ago and they are a very nice shaft. Solid but smooth and the ball flight is mid with controlled spin. I can flight these however I want and the balance and weight feel great. I am very happy with these. Its the first KBS shaft I’ve liked and that fit me.

I think as everyone is posting the feel is impeccable, it just comes down to how you release and if you spin is in check. I played PX for many years, Ctapers, and X100’s before that and never really loved any of them.

I seriously love these shafts and they’re flat out performing for me. Tight dispersion and a beautiful mid flight.

I was fitted for them in X flex, at a club champion, a few months back and they have been performing great so far. I was overspinning the ball, with the Project X LZ, and these brought my spin down to an acceptable level and lowered my ball flight a bit. To me, they play somewhat similar to the C-Taper, but with much better feel. They seem to do a great job keeping my dispersion in check as well. I highly recommend them.

Anyone playing these coming from Modus 120s? Need to lower my spin and launch and curious if anyone can compare. Like the feel of modus, but just not working out for me. Had some really good results in a fitting with project x 6.0, but not crazy about the feel. Wondering if these will be similar in performance.

Wow. I had a 130x C-Taper bend too, and I was between going to try the $ tapers or back to X100s. I can't deal with the bending... that really freaks me out.

I don't game the $ Taper but I've hit them twice now while demo'ing irons. I'v ebeen in Modus 120 for a few years now and these felt right at home for me, and I'm fairly sensitive to big changes in profile.

Don't get caught up in flex designations though. The X flex on modus 120 plays very similar in feel to the 120g $ taper, which is labeled as S flex by KBS. If you just went from X to X, you'll be adding 10g of weight approximately, which will likely affect your swing and your resulting ball flight. I could maybe see going to S+ if I wanted a touch more firmer feel without adding too much mass.

I came from modus 120s. The $taper do play a little stiffer the same flex so I soft stepped my set to get them to play that way. I love them though. Great feel.

The $ Tapers have great rapport and backing behind. I, personally, didn't care for them in feel (Stiff flex only used). I'd love to give them a try in the X flex. The KBS Tours in 130 are great and very similar to the X100s that I use. I've played C-Tapers, C-Taper Lites, Modus 120 and 130s and tried a couple Project Xs here and there. I just can't get away from the X100s.

Check it out though, trying a new ball with these shafts can totally change your perception of a shaft. I always mix and match balls / shaft combos with club heads when getting fit. It makes a huge difference.

Definitely interested in the $ taper lite that just released recently. The price is a little (a lot) on the higher side tho for steel shafts so that's holding me back.

That's disappointing..... Seems KBS quality control still isnt up to snuff

Just had a set of my $tapers replaced because Of the bent tip. It sucks to always be nervous of that occurring, but it’s their customer service that makes me keep using it.

I tried these at a fitting with Club Champion, fitter recommended the C-Tapper lite over the $-tapper do to the lower spin on the $-tappers. I went with my gut and put a set into my Apex forged and love the flight and feel. The heavier weight allows the club to create a release that works for me. All shafts release differently for every swing, you will just have to test to see if they work for you. Plus for me is the added weight and trajectory control.

  • 1 year later...

I’m sorry for digging up an old thread.

I previously played Project X LZ 6.0 and for whatever reason wanted to try a lighter shaft, so I tried the Modus 3 105 but haven’t really gotten a long with it and am thinking that I just really do like the heavier shaft. I did an online shaft fitting (COVID and whatnot) and one of the recommended shafts was the $ Taper....how is this comparable to the LZ 6.0 if I was to do the Stiff in the $ Taper?

thanks in advance

I had modus 105s in my i210s. I was fit for PX 6s and $ tapers. The PX feel more board like and the feel isn’t quite as good. I went for the $ tapers based on that. They have knocked my spin and flight down considerably vs the 105s and Spun less than the PX.  I’ve had them for about 2 weeks now, and my timing and tempo is off from making such a big weight change, but they feel great and flight is much better.  I know not exactly what you were looking for, however my fitter said the LZ was just a spinnier version of the PX.
