TaylorMade Shaft Adapter Compatibility

Wow I'm still REAL confused on this so I'm hoping somebody can clear up. I purchased a 2017 M1 440 head and, not knowing all this time about the different TM adapters bought this:

https://m.ebay.com/i...zMAAOSwqfNXianf

It adjusts 3 degrees. I have already prefitted the adapter into the head and yes it appears to fit but can somebody assure me this will work?

Yes - it will work just fine

Also I found this handy little chart for the 4 degree sleeves:

http://www.golfwrx.c...tach_id=4126600

Does somebody have this for the 3 degree sleeve?

Do a google search for the SLDR tuning guide - that uses a +/- 1.5* adapter and should be close enough.

It's really the same except the loft/lie increments are 0.5* instead of 2/3*.

Quick question. Have an r9 driver but looking to upgrade the shaft with a SLDR tip. I assume it won't work? Can I swap the tip adaptor from my r9 and SLDR shafts? How much will that set me back?

I'd be going from a Fuji Motore Stiff pretty sure it's a 60 g altho the TM PDF online says 65g to a Fuji Motore Tour Spec 7.3 X-stiff 77 g looks like the tip goes from .350 on the stock r9 stiff motore to a .335 on the SLDR tour spec shaft. Am I getting myself into a shaft that just isn't going to work for this driver?

You're correct that it wont work. Do you really want/need to use the m1 shaft in the r9?

If you swap the adapters, you'll likely need to buy new ferrules - only about $3-5 depending on the source. The rest of the cost depends on what your local builder charges for pulling/installing. Most would just buy a new adapter for the one shaft you want to use in the m1. About $15-25 for a new adapter depending on where you get it and then the cost of a single pull/install (instead of 2).

Thanks for the info! I really just need the xstiff shaft. This one was pulled from a SLDR [my mistake] buddy is selling it online. I even have an old r5 I could pull the adapter for. I just wasn't sure if the fitment was going to sacrifice performance or be doing something oddball as I don't really know equipment comparability enough. The shaft would be costing me 50 bux and assuming I could reuse/shim the existing stock r9 TM adapter I figured it would be the cheapest way for me to get an x-stiff driver without buying a new one. Just wanted to make sure there was nothing funny or that the labour costs were gonna make it a minor difference to buying a new boomstick. What do you think?

FYI I noticed you mentioned using the m1 I needed to specify this shaft i'm buying is already pulled from an existing club so he just sold the head and is now selling the shaft/adapter from the club. I know my current r9 [driver i use now] needs an xstiff shaft so I was hoping to use his xstiff in my r9 just wanted to know the compatibility/cost outside of the purchase of the shaft to do so.

R15 driver. Will that shaft work with an M3 head? Thanks

Yes.

All R1 and later adapters work with all of the new heads.

Is above in regards to adapter compatibility between Driver adapters also apply to TM Hybrids.

Will TM hybrid adapters work between generations, therefore allowing shafts to be moved up to the newer heads?

e.g. RB1 / RBZ Stage Two and up to M1 / M2 and M3 / M4?

Also is the above then true also re left / right handed adapters? Thanks in advance....

Bump

I have a purple ice 95x shaft I tried in my M1 driver and didn’t like, but have recently bought a 17° m1 hybrid and want to try it there.

The shaft locks up tight when wrenched in place, but the diameter of the hybrid sleeve seems beefier than the diameter of the m1 wood sleeve. I only worry that with repeated strikes the adapter might snap under the ferrule without the extra mass inside the hosel that the hybrid adapter comes with.

Am I being paranoid? Advice?

They are not the same size. The hybrid adapters are not compatible with the driver/fairway adapters. Just because the wrench clicks doens't mean it's a good or tight fit or that it wont shaft around during impact. But the mass inside the hosel is irrelevant and has nothing to do with whether it will snap or not. The hybrid adapters are bigger simply because they need to support the bigger .370" tip sizes.

There are a lot of other potential problems associated with using a wood shaft in a hybrid head. Simply put, they were not designed to be played that short or with that much head weight.

So in general, it's not really recommended. However, If you really do want to try it anyways, then install a hybrid adapter on the shaft with some shims instead of using the driver/fairway adapter.

Okay sorry to beat what seems to be a dead horse in here. I have an LH r15 head, and am looking into trying new shafts in it. Is there a certain taylormade adapter I should be looking for to fit this head?

Any driver/fairway adapter from the R1 or later. The simple answer is stay away from any that are green or red. The majority of the black ones will fit.

Great post Stuart! That's a pretty simple way to put it, and never seen it put that way before. Can't believe how many times its been posted in this thread that anything from R1/Rbz Stage 2 on up will work, but folks keep asking "I have an R15, will it fit in my M2" or similar - I guess reading comprehension or attention span just isn't what it used to be.

Well, it isn't a completely fool proof way to put it so a tad incomplete. But considering the more complete answer is already in this thread in quite a bit of detail, I saw no need to add any more redundancy.

Any answers to this question? In particular using an M1 hybrid shaft going in to an fct (white R11?) hybrid head? I assume as these came out in 2012 that the adapter will fit?

The hybrid/rescue adapters changed the same year the driver/fairway adapter design changed - which was 2013 - and after the '11 rescue was released.

So the '09 and '11 rescues used the 1st gen adapter design.

SLDR, R15, M1, and M3 use the 2nd gen adapter design (and GAPR's)

And no compatibility between those two groups. You'd have to get a replacement adapter to use any of the newer shafts in the older heads.
