G400 Max Low/Low Shaft Question

Recommended Posts

Currently love the accuracy of my G400 Max. However, the majority of my drives are a bit spiny and too high launch. Playing the Max at 9 turned down to 8 and have a BB6 S and Speeder 757 S both playing at 44”. I’m currently unable to get to a quality fitter and considering giving the Epic Flash SZ with Hazardous Yellow or Smoke Black a go. However, wanted to inquire if anyone else has had similar issues and found a low/low shaft that worked well with their Max?

Thx

Do you have numbers to go with "too spinny/too high launch"? Also what sort of swing speed do you produce?

Don’t have LM #’s unfortunately. Swing speed averages 105-107 range. Current ball flight is just too much on the high side the majority of the time (balloon) and lacking boring trajectory. I have to really focus on high right shoulder through impact to bring it down some. I did get on Track Man with the BB 6 once and recall being 2800’ish if I’m not mistaken but was a while ago. I can’t recall launch but I’m definitely losing some distance due to ballooning.

Thanks to all for the responses.

Interesting

More data would be needed but I am not sure 2800 RPM’s is costing you as much distance as you think it might. IF you said you were on a trustworthy LM and had over 4,000RPM I’d definitely agree

What are your current drivings rolling out to? Not sure where your from but drives around here aren’t rolling out much if at all, (plus the early season air to consider, PLUS early season golf swing)

Do you know your ballspeed? Launch angle? It’s too hard to gauge spin without the other factors

Yeah most anyone I know that could hit a baseball and switched to golf loads the club very differently than most. Sounds like you probably could just go X and have a lot more options than just a board of a shaft in stiff. The BB and 757 should be more stout if my memory serves me correctly, so I'd think X for sure. Lots of options under $100 you could go with that are more mid/mid-low.

Toolman,

I am from GA we are getting firm now and get to play year round. I’m getting virtually no roll out unless I really keep right shoulder high through impact which can bring ye old snapper in play. It was a year or so since on Track Man and I’m swinging better. I wish I had numbers but just don’t currently. I know the flight I’m looking for, mid-boring. Used to get it with my old Cally X tour 8.5 and a V2 X. Was closer to it with my G LST and 757. I love the 400 Max forgiveness just hoping to find the right shaft to get a more boring trajectory. Based on reading sounds like a great head but takes the right shaft pairing for many.

Thx

OP, you're coming to an open book test without the book.

Sounds like you have your ideal head picked. The best thing to do is find a monitor and get on it and make sure your strike is on point in terms of where you're hitting off the club face. I'll say that the shaft is a part of the battle but, don't rule the ball out either. Have you looked into an X or Regular version of whatever you're gaming?

Case and point, older Chromesoft Xs ballooned up for me off the driver and regular Chromeys didn't.

Make sure you're giving that a look.

Also, if you're taking lessons and making swing changes, take into account that you might need to shift again once engrained in your motion.

I should have stated that the BB 6 was from a Club Champion fitting with 400 Max head. I have done PT for injuries and improved swing to get more speed back since. Was throwing and lacking hip turn through at the time. I know I’m a low/low to low/mid guy.

I’m aware another fitting is the best course of action and asking for shaft recs without numbers is faux pas up in here. However, it’s a 4 hr round trip drive to any fitter with variety in exotic shafts and just don’t have the time currently with work and kiddos. It’s not the ball in this case.

BB 6 S feels soft in the butt end to me currently so maybe an X in low/low category will help. Appreciate all the recs as all sound interesting and worthy of a try.
