Soft Butt Stiff Tip Driver Shaft

Can anybody help me with a suggestion for a driver shaft with a stiff tip/soft butt profile that is mid to high launching. During an iron fitting, I was fit into C Taper Lite iron shafts, and told that because I have a tendency to "yank it" down the line, the stiff tip/soft butt profile was the way to go. I've had some good success with them so far.

 

I like the launch of my Kuro Kage XT, but it is a stiff butt profile. I'm looking to experiment with something a little softer in the butt section. I played a Graphite Design AD BB which fit the profile, but I didn't like the low launch angle. I felt that I really had to force an upper cut to get it up where the KK flies.

 

I'm experimenting here to see if I can get a little more of a predictable ball flight. Thanks in advance.

Even flow blue would be the most butt soft. Blue board series is similar but maybe slightly stiffer than even flow. I play modus 120 in irons and want that same feel in wood shafts too

If you want low spin with soft butt tip stiff. White board. Any version.

To be clear, there really is no such thing as a soft butt/stiff tipped shaft that is considered mid or high launching. The launch characteristics of a shaft in isolation are determined by its tip to butt deflection ratio. Soft butt/stiff tipped shafts have a lower tip to butt ratio by design and thus deflect less when approaching impact and impart less launch and spin. Higher launching shafts have a higher tip to butt deflection ratio and impart more loft and spin. These are usually shafts with a stiffer butt and softer mid/tip sections.

 

If the soft butt/stiff tipped shafts are the types of that work for you then all you need to do is crank up your driver loft a bit and get your higher launch that way.

I'd bump your loft up and use a Pro White.

Can't give a "new" and improved shaft with soft butt and stiff tip. In my experience, a softer butt section isn't going to protect from yanking. A softer butt section is common but comes with low-mid trajectory. Four things create high trajectory early release, softer tip section, faster swing speed and or increased loft.

Mitsu D+, Mitsu DF, Tensei Pro White, UST V2, Fujikura Ventus, Fujikura Pro 2.0 (not the TS as this has a stiffer butt), a tipped VA Composites Slay, Aldila NV Green 2KV, Graphite Design MT. Probably the "best" of this profile is going to the be Graphite Design M9003...it has a mid butt and followed by a super stiff tip section.

Mitsubishi Diamana DF ( butt section is a tad stiffer than previous whiteboards), Tensei Pro White, Diamana D+ , Aldila’s green profiles typically, Aldila rogue 125 msi and new 130 msi, Graphite Design has a few as well that are def worth checking out

Is the Ventus Blue a soft butt shaft?

Look at the Titleist custom shaft matrix - good details and easy to read the shaft specs.

I was fit into the same profile = High bend point and tip stiff.

Been happy with the Aldila Rogue Silver.

Tensei Pro Orange has a softer butt and stiffer tip than White, right? Is there a reason everyone is suggesting white instead of orange?

General consensus is the Pro Orange feels much stiffer in the butt section than Pro White. From what I have heard Orange feels and plays more stout overall. Pro White has more feel to it, and if you load the shaft hard you can feel the bend point up near the hands.

I hear ya. Just looking at EI profiles is great to give an idea on type of shaft profile, but that’s why it’s best to test whenever possible lol.
