Vokey SM4: Anyone else still playing them or gone back to them?

I'm a senior, mostly a sweeper, with some basal (thumb) arthritis that has me playing 85g Steelibers in the wedges both for weight and shock absorption. I liked my SM4 56.11 M (bent to 55) and 60.07 S with steelfibers, but wasn't playing my 60 much. About a year and a half ago I picked up a 58 SM6, (putting in the steelfiber) figuring it would get more play than my 60. It just felt so much heavier than my SM4, though both are D5, that I missed some touch. May just have been the static weight difference.

 

So I got an SM6 54 S grind for a better match with the SM6 58. Didn't like the S grind. Got a 50F and 56 M SM6 on sale last November. Have played them for maybe 25 rounds. As I'm adding new steelfiber each time, or paying for switching shafts, this wasn't getting cheap.

 

My short game feel was so much better with SM4 that I'm going back to them from SM6. Think I'll still stick with the SM6 50 with steelfiber. Though I do have a good shape SM5 50 head I played for a period if that feeling changes.

 

I could easily use my worn but still in good shape SM4 56.11 M (bent to 55) and 60.07 S. I did however find a very good shape SM4 54.11 M with steelfiber that is being adjusted for swingweight that will go in the bag . Just found and ordered a new in wrapper SM4 58.09 S that will also get one of my steelfiber shafts and be swingweight adjusted. I figure I'll go with the newer 54 and new 58 SM4 combo. Still have the still pretty good shape 55 and 60 as go-to spares. At age 68 1/2 maybe I've done the last of any wedge shopping? Fingers crossed.

Hmm...looked it up. He may well be a SM 4 TVD 60 still. You're right...I got in at the right time perhaps.

My local edwin watts just got shipped 'new old stock' TVD wedges, saw half dozen on the shelf for full retail price of $159

 

I didnt take note of the loft or grinds though

I still game a SM4 52* gap wedge with 08 bounce (looks like an F grind), and love it.

That’s what I use, a 54 and 58 TVD SM4 Customs.

TVDs still in the bag. Hard to beat that model K grind this time of year with the weather we have. Also have M grind in 54. Much better shape/size than some later models.

Still playing an SM4 46 degree, not sure about sole grind off top of my head. Gets me the yards I need when I need it still, so I don't see the need to change at the moment.

After practicing short game today with the new to me 54.11, (gotta love that feel), I just grabbed another used 54.11 M off the Bay. Face looks even in better than this one so a great spare. Women's shaft on it, but don't care as I'll reshaft anyway at whatever time I put it in play.

Hear ya...I was just late to the game coming back to an old faithful. I suspect the finish isn't as resilient with the heat-treatment on later models so spares of these heads are good, even just because of buried stones in muni bunkers. But as I said in my original post, I'm 68 so who knows...

I have a 62 sm4 satin, solid LW for sure

My tvd 50 and 56 m grinds are the chrome finish. The 56 may be my all time favorite club to chip with

Just got the reshafted with i80 R steelfiber SM6 49.07 F , "almost new" SM4 54.11 M grind and new condition 58.09 S grind back from the clubfitter. Same MOI all three. (2719 MOI for anyone interested and who knows what that means, lol.) I hit the chipping green and can't wait till my round tomorrow. They're like butter and sit so nice. Even holed a few from different clubs.

Yups Still got them! I run 2 sets depending how much spin I need and the length of course.

50.8F,54.10M,58.8M SM5 with X100 daily set.

50.8,56.11,60.7 SM4 with wedge flex, for the ultra fast greens.

the weaker lofts and wedge flex lets me put more spin on the ball to have better control on super fast greens. (12 stimp is super fast to me and we have 2-3 tracks that I get to play on, on a common basis so need more hold on these faster greens)

 

Normally play on 8 stimp courses.
