I dunno man, I have the 919Ts up to 7i and they’re just gorgeous clubs. I think they’re cleaner looking than the AP2s, but pretty similar to me down by the ball. And they just sound perfect.

But...

I think when it comes to dropping this type of money on shiny new irons it comes down to turf integration based on your style of swing. The specs just don’t really matter that much.

One will probably feel better through the turf for your swing, and they’re the ones to get.

  • 3 weeks later...

I finally figured it out. I hit the 919 Tour during my warm up for my driver fitting yesterday and I’m in love.

Figured out how I’m going to change my irons later this year to the 919 Tour/Forged combo set.

19* 3 hybrid

22* JPX Forged 4 iron

26* JPX Forged 5 iron bent 1* weak

30* JPX Tour 6

34* JPX Tour 7

38* JPX Tour 8

42* JPX Tour 9

46* JPX Tour P

50* wedge

54* wedge

58* wedge

Rather than strengthen the tour 4 by 2 degrees and 5 iron by 1 which would leave me with 0 and 1 degrees of bounce, I’ll add the Forged instead and weaken the 5 iron 1 degree to keep 4* even gaps throughout. Plus, the Forged are more forgiving for those longer irons shots where I don’t work the ball left or right to begin with. I’d love to keep the Tours through but the bending the 4 iron 2 strong takes it to zero bounce which is slightly worrisome for me. The Forged 4 iron is already 22 degrees. ??‍♂️

But the 919 Tours are without a doubt, the prettiest set to me. High toe, longer length, thin lines, and that finish!

100% this. I would say you absolutely must hit both outdoors to see how they go through the turf. For me, the AP2's slightly higher bounce makes it the winner. I would also argue that despite the AP2 being almost identical in size and appearance of top line (the AP2 top line I believe is actually thicker but due to the grinding of it and use of chrome/satin it actually appears the same size) it will have more forgiveness on miss hits. If you sweep a bit more and can get away with less bounce the 919 Tour will probably be the winner. The 919T is the best looking iron I've ever seen honestly. I will try it outdoors when I get the chance but in all likelihood it won't be AP2 for me.

well I am playing 919 Tours at 4* increments(4-9). I have had them since they launched in the UK.

So far they are the best irons I have ever used, very forgiving and they look great from address.

Before this I was always a pure blade player.

I would recommend them to anyone who is a decent player or better.

Did you go 22* in the 4 iron and 26* in the 5? How is the turf interaction with bounce being 0 in the 4iron if so? That’s kind of where I’m torn in the Forged vs tour in the 4 and 5 iron.

yes for the lofts.

to me the turf interaction is fine, I have not noticed any problems at all, playing here in Texas and at home on links in Scotland.

I just got the 919 T in 7-pw and forged in 4-6 and after 2 rounds and range session i kinda wish I had just gone 4-pw in the Tours. I'll need a little more time with them to come to my final conclusion but the early signs have me buying 4-6 in Tours and selling the Forged...... But that could change just as fast as the entire bag could change.... cuz thats what I do sometimes

Just ordered 5-pw in the tour. I also took awhile to figure out the next club. I picked up a clk 22 speeder hybrid. Amazing club but almost too long. I hated the higher spin and turf interaction of ap2s but the tours are way cleaner and ball flight right where you want it. They are also a lot easier to change trajectory with.
