785 or 919T....anyone compare them

I like the looks of both, but have only hit them on a simulator. I’m a little concerned about the forgiveness with the long irons. Anyone hit both? Pros and cons?

I’m interested in this as well! Currently have MP18 SC 4-7 and MB 8-PW. Hit a friend’s 765s and they felt great and went through impact so nicely with the sole. Haven’t hit the 919 Tours yet but Maltby playability says they’re much more forgiving that the SC.

What are you playing off? 6i swing speed? What are you currently playing? Generally, if you're already worried about it, you won't feel overly confident hitting a 4 iron at a 200 yard par 3 with hazards guarding the green. Try hybrids or a combo set. Make sure you don't just hit the 7 if you get fit. Make sure the whole set works for you. Have the get the gapping right. I have a 4 iron but generally have the 4 hybrid in the bag. Flies WAY higher and will stop fast. Don't have any issue in the wind.

If you are considering the 785s, look into comboing the 585s or the U85s in your long irons. IMO they flow together really well and both are very forgiving.

i play my 785's all the way up to the 3i..no issues here.

I am biased towards the 919 Tours as love mine. They are very forgiving for a players iron and honeymoon period finished months ago as I got them when they were released.

 

To me they come down to the bounce of the irons, V sole vs lower bounce normal sole. try them on grass if you are unsure.

If you do have the option to hit both off of grass then that's the best case scenario. I demo'd both with various shafts on my club's LM and then eventually took them out on the course. In the end, the Srixon's won, the v-sole just worked better for my game. As far as long irons go, I found both options pretty forgiving and each had great feel and feedback, imo. I didn't find any reason to go with the 585 in long irons but you may like the added forgiveness. Two great sets.

Somewhat off topic, How accurate is that chart? I just looked up my Apex CF16, on the chart they appear harder to hit than the Apex Pro CF16. That’s gotta be a typo, right.
