High launch & spin costing me yardage ... help

Recommended Posts

I’ve been playing for about 7 years. When I first started, driving killled me. Over time it has become a relatively consistent part of my game, however I always tend to spin it too much 2800-3100 and launch it too high (~15*). My swing speed is 110 +/- and my angle of attack is usually around +4. My miss has gone from a slice to a block or an occasional hook. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Those swings are with a Diamana W Series 60x. I also have a 70x version of the same shaft and a HZRDUS Yellow 76 6.0.

1. 15 launch isn't too high

2. Spin is a bit high but not excessive, which is good. You can probably bring it down with minor equipment tweaks. Or work on strike a bit.

Where are you striking it on the face? And where are you getting your ball data?

Middle to middle high. If off-center, toe side. GC4 or whatever the heck PGASS uses. Had a drive that flew 280 but apexed at 50 yards which is stupid high. Descent was ~45* on some. Very possible that they are bad numbers, but I know I hit the ball high. May be nothing.

So something is off, If you are AoA +4/ CHS @ 110+/ Strike middle to middle high on the toe side, that does not equal 15* launch w/ 2800-3000rpm.

Just for reference I'm also using a 9* G400 Max, lofted down, my ball speeds are mid 160's to low 170's and I have my own GC2 so pretty familiar with launch monitor numbers.

Most likely just delivering a lot of dynamic loft into impact - hands further behind the ball at impact than might be considered ideal. so if you do get back on the machine (depending on what machine is being used) - look for those dynamic loft numbers. I've been known to deliver as much as 16-19* of dynamic loft with a 10* head on occasion (unfortunately).

Going lower in head loft can sometimes help but it's really a swing issue not an equipment issue. Sometimes it's even a consequence of trying to hit up on it more than your swing can really support. Best to see an instructor look at your swing but you never know, sometimes messing with ball position (a bit further back in the stance) or tee height (lower) might be all the help that's needed to keep the hands from lagging behind at impact.

Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else see anything in the swing that could be causing this? After watching, I do agree that I might be hanging back a tad bit.

It looks like you might be extending up a bit early and casting. The combination of that could result in the higher angle of attack, adding loft and hitting the ball lower on the club face. Those things would make more sense with the numbers you're getting. It's hard getting high spin numbers regardless of what you do if you hit it high on the face. It would help to have a better camera angle, more down the line and camera off the ground a few feet, and maybe some slow mo, but it kind of looks like your club might be too far under plane coming down.

Thanks for the response. Honest question, is this casting? I feel like my left wrist is still pretty straight and my right wrist still has some good bend to it.

Angle of the picture is weird, it would be better if it were a few feet higher and full body but you're hands at impact should be closer to your left pocket and your left hip more around. It appears they're at your zipper which means you're probably flipping a bit.
