8 birdies ... classic spieth round .. made some long putts ... got up and down a few times ... hit it to 15 ft or so from the rough a few times ... even had a testy exchange with his caddie ... then apologized for it ...

Rahm has a poor record in tough conditions, weather or setup. Augusta aside his record at majors, WGCs, The Players etc. is poor apart from the odd result here and there. Must be his temperament as he clearly has the skills.

Additionally have others like Spieth, Furyk, Finau that most people who watch some golf know. Then an **** load of good players/former major winners such as Zack Johnson, Kaymer, McDowell, Oosthuizen, Walker, Casey, Poulter, Billy Ho, Kisner, and many others with tour wins and guys often in contention. Overall seems decent to me. I'd buy a ticket if I was in DFW.

And from an on-site fans perspective it's excellent ... several places with multiple greens and tees close to each other, on both nines.

Maybe it's perception. I see half of the top 10 are playing and the SOF has changed much y/y and it's up from a few years ago.

But it seems like for many years this tournament (and the Byron Nelson) hasn't usually drawn the best of the best (ex-Spieth who plays since they are in DFW). Maybe this is partly just who's more popular

though (DJ, Koepka, Rory, JT, Tiger, Phil, etc don't seem to be here often if at all).

How so? Assume a player birdies all of the par 5's. On a par 70 course that means he has to birdie 3 of the remaining holes, while staying bogey free to shoot 65. Same on a par 72. Birdie the par 5's plus 3 other holes and stay bogey free.

Probably so. To me it seems not as special as in years past. But just my opinion.

I understand from a business POV it’s fine. So no reason to argue that angle. I have no financial stake in this myself.

Common theme is none of them are from Texas nor currently live in Texas so there is less personal pull to be there. Also, Colonial was traditionally thought of as a bomber-proof quirky little track, though Tony Finau may be changing some minds with a 64 and only 3 fairways hit (in fairness, I have no idea how far in the rough he was on average). I can't imagine the Texas heat in May makes it anymore attractive for the top tier players who can take a pass on weekly checks. And now that the PGA is in May, it's going to hurt both tournaments even more.

this cant be a serious post... find me a tour player who thinks a par 70 plays easier than a par 72 on tour...

It’s easier to go lower in relation to par on a par 72. But it should be easier to shoot a 65 on a par 70. It’s 5 below par, not 7.

He also missed two very makable putts in round 2, one 8 footer and a 5 footer. Obviously holed some long ones too.

I don’t know. All I know is he’s obviously not PGA Tour quality and it’s getting more and more embarrassing. He’s played two web.com events and missed the cut in those too. Maybe start there...

This is it right here. Don't get me a 65 is good either way but nobody really going to call a 67 a wow score on a par 72. It like when you hear somebody shot all rounds in the 60s but played on a par 70 and short 4 rounds of 69.
