Quite the comeback by Auburn to defeat Texas in the quarterfinals. Texas had the lead in four of the five matches for most of the day. Duke vs. Stanford was a real nail biter.

Yep, I'm still stunned my Horns lost that match. They didn't just have "leads", they had big leads and let them get away.

Is it my imagination, or were the women playing awful fast? With the extended rain delay, I'm sure they were pressing to finish before the sun went down, but they still seemed to be playing unusually fast. I wonder if the fast play effected some of the players.

I would not do well in college golf lol Too much gamesmanship. Haley Moore of Arizona really went over the top after the rain delay. Like when she stood over a 6 foot putt for double bogey for about a minute when her opponent had a 4 foot putt for par but in the end in worked cause she came back and won lol

That was a really weird sequence there. I laughed when the announcer said maybe the other girl should tell Haley, "you do realize that I'm putting for par".

Congrats to Duke for the championship. Once again, it was a gutsy performance, and a real nail biter. Two of the matches went into extra holes, with Jaravee Boonchant defeating the World #1 amateur Junnifer Kupcho in the first playoff hole, and Miranda Wang defeating Letizia Bagnoli in two extra holes.

 

Even with the loss, Jennifer had quite a year with a win in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur, and finishing her amateur career ranked #1 in the WAGR. 'Looking forward to seeing her on the LPGA shortly.

I usually enjoy watching women's NCAA sports. Women's NCAA softball, in particular, seems to be everything that's right right with the game with none of the wrong. The level of skill is impressive, and the upbeat spirit and sportsmanship is infectious. It's a joy to watch regardless of who's playing.

 

I didn't find the golf that way at all. I thought most of the women played the game like they were marching off to their own execution. There was a joylessness present that I don't sense in other sports, and the dull hugs at the end of the rounds suggested a level of forced sportsmanship that didn't reflect well on the competitors. Of everyone out there, only Maria Fassi exhibited a level of infectious enthusiasm that demonstrated any real love of the game.

Golf is such a different game than softball. Players (on the course) have to keep emotions in check. There were a handful of players that wore their emotions on their sleeve, but for the most part they were stoic. No surprise to me. The players in the gallery were quite animated.

You must have stepped out of the room everytime they showed Siyun Liu from Wake Forest, lol. And I found it totally different than you. I thoroughly enjoyed watching pretty the whole thing. I thought these girls were a joy to watch.

Yes, Siyun needs to understand that her demeanor won't help her make friends with many competitors in golf.

Congrats to Duke! They were awesome and a really impressive group of student athletes who represent their school so well.
