Blessings Golf course...

Recommended Posts

Stanford's golf coach saying that the team needs to rest from walking a beast of a golf course and rest for the afternoon matches.

The announcers are stating that the course is a whopping 21,000 steps , up and down steep hills. Now just last week people were arguing with me about walking not being essential to golf. I would say on this course that a golf cart would be a big advantage...before people quote the law to me, I know, I know what it states.

Just my humble opinion.

I think conditioning, eating right, and being well hydrated are essential. Although the Blessings probably is a beast to walk, it seems like most of these D1 guys are in very good shape and can handle it just fine.

My daughter's coach played her college golf at Arkansas and said the course is a ridiculously hard beast.

Imagine playing a couple of practice rounds, 4 stroke play rounds, then 3 match play rounds for the team championship. Fatigue definitely becomes an issue and in golf it does not take much to throw a wrench into your game.

I’m going to keep this fairly short. A girl who played on my college team and a close friend of mine had an NCAA exemption to use a golf cart in tournament play. Just to play golf she did hours of PT. She has muscular discrophy and I can promise her walking the amount she has to walk , even with a cart is harder on her body then us walking. Mentally it’s also terrible because she has to explain to every FPC why she has a cart and has a much worse ability to socialize with her group then if she was walking

2016- Oregon won in Eugene

2018- OSU won in Stillwater

I never said the hone team will always win. You really think staying at your own home, playing the course you have played hundreds of times, offers no advantage?

It doesn’t take much imagination to see that it may help the home team advance past the stroke play round even if they don’t ultimately win the championship.

Home course advantage absolutely helps, in general. Comfort level, and experience. The examples cited above, Oregon and Ok St, are good ones.

This was a really hard course. Knowledge would help immensely.

The women's champ, Maria Fassi, said she shot 89 the first time she played The Blessings.

But she was -7 for the week and NCAA champ, closing with a 68, so obviously she learned well how to play and attack the course in certain spots.

I've never played The Blessings but have attended some tournaments there, including this year's NCAAs.

It's a tough walk, and I shudder to think what I would shoot there. It would require several times around to get a feel for it, for sure.

I talked to a PGA professional who said when he played he hit every fairway but two...and still shot 97! Because when getting to the greens, the fun is beginning.

I would be trying to break 100.

The men's champ shot -10 for the week, and the lady's champ shot -7 I think. The Texas freshman was -6 through his first 8 holes in their upset over Ok St.

So, scores can be had...for someone playing really, really good golf. It's tough, but fair.

I would love for the chance to let it beat me up sometime, just like I would love the chance to play Bethpage Black. I would relish the challenge.
