Nippon's prototype Graphite on Steel shafts - shot @ 2018 AT&T Byron Nelson

Could barely get him to show it to me at the time, much less hit one. Its gonna play similar to the 120 but lighter and smoother from what I was told. His feedback from players was that you could reallly load it like a steelshaft and not worry about it, but still get the same kick you get from a graphite to get a few extra yards

If it's that profile and plays similar then it could be interesting. I still haven't seen any put in play though.

Where did you get this shaft from?

Nice score! What’s the weight? Does anyone know if this will be available by next spring? I’m about to put a PX Catalyst 100 in my driving iron, but I would wait to get one of these if I knew it was going to be available

Shaft: Aldila Rogue 130 White 70 TX (at 45" and tipped 1")

3-wood: TaylorMade SIM (15 degrees)

I've got no numbers but I tried it on the course today and it's a good shaft. It's got a nice feel to it - not at all boardy. Only the first time out with it but loving it so far and also enjoyed the X Forged UT - such an easy club to hit, which is handy with the way I'm swinging at the moment.

Black Modus' need to be released. If they have been, link me!

 

As far as I know it hasn’t been released in US yet. I think it’s only available in the Asian market right now.

 

I've got no numbers but I tried it on the course today and it's a good shaft. It's got a nice feel to it - not at all boardy. Only the first time out with it but loving it so far and also enjoyed the X Forged UT - such an easy club to hit, which is handy with the way I'm swinging at the moment.

I've no idea, but I'd guess perhaps 110g? It's not heavy but not excessively light (I tend to favour heavier shafts, although that often seemed to go with the lower torque that I prefer and modern material are changing that relationship), so I guess mid-weight. It was already installed in the club so I didn't have the chance to check the weight.

 

It's a very smooth shaft and first impressions were good. It's a soft X flex and probably does equate to a Modus 120.

That’s great to know. I currently game the modus3 120s and love them. Seems like this shaft would be a great match to them to use in my 790 3i that I use as my driving iron. I hope it comes to US market this spring.

ACTUALLY - while I haven't read all of the posts (the advantage of being old and lazy) this is not a new idea.

 

Wilson/Hagen actually did this inh 1974 - filament wound carbon graphite over steel stepped shafts.

 

Was a distance beast - my boss at the time gave me one for graduation from high school - X-stiff - 44"

 

Only problem was, with balata balls at the time, you could only hit a ball about 4 times with this setup of head/shaft - the ball would go out of round, and the markings from the grooves on the face of the driver scored the ball really bad...

 

But boy - did I ever get the distance!!!!

 

I think this will fly quite well - looking for when they "perfect" the shaft set-up for a driver
