Hopefully done with all this tinkering now since the set is perfect in my eyes! Driver ended up as a D3.5, so being picky, had to match the 3-wood to that spec as well with a slightly different weight. Popped in a 7g M4/M6 plug and it came out perfect. Looks similar to the new M2 weight in the driver as well. Hitting them well for sure along with all the other Mizuno sticks in the bag:)

I used a propane torch, hit it for 3 seconds, came out with little effort. From the looks of what was on the bottom of the weight, Mizuno epoxies these weights in place.

I believe Mizuno does have different weights for swing weight purposes. The one that came out of my driver was about 1 gram, the one out of the 3 wood was 3 grams.

Thanks to @Hammer22 's great info, I got this nice and neat on the first try. 10g Jetspeed weight with a #7 rubber O-ring to fill in the small amount of extra space. Love it!

I just bought those M2 weights off amazon/ebay but they were 1-1.5mm too large for the hole in the ST190 driver. I had to sand down the outside a little bit to get my 8G weight to fit in the port. YMMV I guess as these Chinesium weights differ in size.

It was mentioned in an earlier post in this thread that the M2 weights are slightly too large and need sanded down to fit.

The M4 weights are the ones that work without modification, they are actually a little small compared to the oem weight.

I want to do this so bad to add some weight, but I am scared to death to do it all at the same time. I think I will take it in and get it done if possible :)

What length are you playing your ST190 at with the 10 gram weight? Close to pulling the trigger on a 190 to replace my M4 so it looks like my 10 gram M4 weight should work fine in this head.

> Bumping this up again since I ended up cutting 1/2" off my driver (like the 3-wood) and needed to add weight to the head to get the D3 swing weight back. First, I got my hands on a '17 M2 weight, and it turns out they **don't** fit - but it's close. That one is only about 0.5mm too large, so it could be turned down a hair easily with a dremel or belt sander for anyone so inclined.

>

> Since I had another one of the Jetspeed weights handy that was perfect, in it went - but with the original Mizuno trim ring. Still came out nice even though the O.D. of the new weight doesn't quite fill the gap as much, but you have to get close to see it. The head is 198g now and a D3 again.

Appreciate this thread is a good 7 months old. I've a couple questions regarding the swingweight with the driver. Current driver spec is st190/Diamana BF series 70 TX shaft/playing length 45 inch. I want to keep the current spec but change balance point.

1. I'm trying to do the opposite and reduce the swingweight from d5.6 to around d4. I believe that by removing 3 grams of weight from head would get me back to toward the d4 range?

2. Other question is would it be easier using the tour lock counter balance weight and installing this in the grip to reduce the swingweight?

I have actually changed to a 16g M2 weight now, but bear in mind that the stock ring around the weight weighs 4g, so the above pictured combo weighs 14g. I play my ST190 between 44.25" and 44.75" depending on shaft (testing a few right now) and I like my driver swingweight heavier (D5-D7).

I just got a ts 3 wood for a great deal, it’s 43.25 in length, standard head weight, and atmos black tour spec 7s. The only problem is, it’s coming in at D1! How can that be? Any other shaft I put in the head at my golf shop- tensei white 7s at 43” for example, is D3...

So my question is, how can a 1/4 inch longer shaft at the same weight be two swing weights lighter? Are the atmos shafts counter weighted?

Link to comment

Well 1/4" will account for 1.5 swingweight points just by itself. The rest could be explained by any slight differences in grip weight and/or balance point. The Atmos Black TS 7s has a slightly higher than normal balance point, but not in the same range as shafts that are generally considered "counter balanced".

Yeah i figured a swing weight heavier with the additional 1/4”, not lighter which is why I thought it was weird. It came with the basic Mizuno golf pride grip so nothing heavy. I’ll have to pop it off and see if there is anything going on under the grip. Thanks though.

I've been playing the ST180HL for the past 2 years-ish. Really wanted to upgrade to a m5 head this off season, this would require either new tip and/or shaft. Got out bid on several heads and wasn't willing to pay that high for one. Decided to check the 2nd hand market on a ST190 head and was very happy with my decision to stick with Mizuno and the price I got this excellent condition head in.

Not looking forward to SW adjustments as I have a lot of lead tape on my current ST180 head, however, I do enjoy the process of tinkering. I definitely have to go this route for a more permanent weight adjustment. Lead tape is easy for dialing in the ideal weight but it will eventually come of several times through a season and can be an annoyance to fix.

Will probably be back with questions once I get my head in and start to adjust after I re-read this thread.

@Hammer2 I received my ST190 HL driver head and it weighs 192g on the scale I used. I grabbed my old ST180HL head w/ lead tape picture prior and weighs to 200g exactly. Surprised it was 200g exactly seeing as I just put lead tape on there until I felt comfortable with it.
Would I need a 10g or 12g jetspeed weight with the current trim ring around it to get about 200g total weight for the new head? Also where was the 0-ring purchased?

You only need 8 more grams right? Not sure why'd you'd be looking at the 10-12g weights especially along with the trim ring, which weighs about 4g. That means all you need is a 4g Jetspeed weight. And if you're asking about the rubber O-ring, I just picked that up in the plumbing section of my local hardware store.

Ah right, that weight normally weighs 2g, I forgot. So you'd just want a 6g Jetspeed weight instead of a 4g.

You need to go to the hardware store and get a set of security torx bits, usually less than $10. Has the hole in the center of the bit. If you try to use a standard torx bit, you will strip out the threads.

Well, I think the mizuno stock weight won the war.

I tried applying heat and getting the weight out but still ended up stripping the bolt. Tried using an extractor bit like the one used earlier in this thread, but it won’t bite.

Seems like I’m out of options at this point and will have to use lead tape. Fuck.
